i would postulate that the species of triops, evolved, could wage war or perform combat while in the midst of copulation, and most likely an altered/highly specialized form of it.
unless they are unisexual (i don't think my kit had a well written biography, if i remember correctly), i would assume that as of now the eggs are fertilized by the "male" while outside the body. i do believe some crustacea mount their partner. the triops could evolve so that the male and female could fertilize while in a top and bottom position, the equation in human terms, of course, would be the classic missionary position.
for color let's say that the male is actually on the bottom and the female inserts a tube into his lower thorax (?) to manipulate and collect the goods. the two can thrash their cable tails and swim more powerfully while in this connected state, and the act can last for up to 6 hours (evolved triops genitalia is tough business, let's say).
so, while essentially a gestalt beast, wild with hormonal thoughts (this is far more developmentally advanced than the triops as we know them, remember), why not "burn off" the excess by committing it to a worthwhile use to the species, which is to say, eliminating the enemy? i would suspect that the triops nation would endorse this kind of love/war event. maybe even organize it on a colony-wide scale?
the frightening thing that i can forsee would be the simplicity and elegance of the girl triops wang. i see it as something like a smooth iron rod, firmly locked into place by some twisty suction cups inside of the dude. the design of this coupling is streamlined to the point that it actually aids (there is no triopian AIDS, btwalthough that is probably the key to defeating them) the couple in waging battle. imagine a giant triops couple ramming into anything from another creature to, well, depending on their future size, even a ship of some sort, then having one half rotate 180 degrees on their shared pivot to orally shred the battered/broken enemy as it passed by!
after battle, and with much energy depleted from both fighting AND procreation, they could just eat their opposition. in fact, that would give them more impetus to win, because if they lose or run they starve.

if alex had a trilobite, he'd proabably MURDER it by drying it out (like the did with the starfish) and then display the carcass on his soap dish, much to everyone's dismay/horror.
