I went back to that 2 channel Recto test thread with the Royer and after being blown away again did a bit of research on the mic... With the figure 8 pattern, does that mean that when pointing the front of it at a guitar cab, the back side is still picking up tons of ambient bullshit from the room? Somewhat akin to running 2 SM57s say and having one pointed at the speaker and one pointed in the opposite direction? It seems like the mic still sounds AMAZING in practice, but in theory this idea REALLY rubs me the wrong way  Am I completely wrong here...?

Well you're right about the functionality of it (that's the nature of the figure-8 pattern, or "figure-of-8" as my Audio teacher always said, which caused me no small amount of rage :goggly: ), but it sounded pretty good in that test, which of course is what counts! ;) Having a big space behind it would certainly help though; if you were in a small iso room you might get some nasty comb filtering from reflections hitting the back. Check out the Beyerdynamic M160 though dude, Lasse has one and loves it, it's supercardioid (rather than figure-8), and is just a bit more than half the price of the ludicrously expensive Royer!
