What kind of drums and heads did you use on the "Visions of...." album?

I'm not going to steal your "sound" but they simply sound amazing!! Just curious.

Thanks

The only triggered drum was the bass-drum

yes, I sort of guessed that. Still, it was a very smooth sound. I'm glad to have that confirmed though, it takes a great drummer to pull off sounds like that.

Ouch, haven't been on this board for quite a while... The drums on the last two Borknagar- and the last two Vintersorg-albums were recorded with a Yamaha Custom Maple Absolute. Like this one: http://www.yamaha.com/yamahavgn/CDA.../0,6373,CNTID%3D26701%26CTID%3D211500,00.html
I also used V-Drums TD-8 bass drums. When you're a lazy fuck like me it's a lot easier to just bring that equipment in stead of two big bass drums. It also makes it very easy to fix fucked up recorded bass drums...

The drum heads on "Focusing Blur" were Remo Ambassador. I used both Emperor and Ambassador on "Visions...". I get the same sound on these but the Emperor drum heads are thinner so I need to change them after recording only one song. The Ambassadors last maybe two songs haha! I switched to heavier sticks when playing with Testament and they KILL drum heads. It's also important to know that you need to play real hard in order to get the good sound from your tom toms. You also need good microphones and a killer engineer (like Børge Finstad, Toproom Studio...). And a killer drummer, duh! Oh, and I played through "Visions..." three times (two times on my V-drums kit and one time on my acoustic kit) before recording it. I didn't rehearse at all for the last Vintersorg and Borknagar. As I mentioned earlier; I'm a lazy fuck!

Thanks for asking!

Forgive a stupid question, but I'm not a drummer and I've always wondered: what the hell is 'triggering'?
Triggering is basically the replacing of the actual drum sound w/ a preprogrammed sound. You can have it on any part of the set, and when you hit that part, the trigger replaces the actual sound w/ the preprogrammed sound.

Correct. It is a mounted sensor. Hellhammer, Nick Barker, Frost, Pete Sandoval etc uses that. A lot of people think it is cheating to use triggers but everybody who's tried it can confirm that trigging doesn't make you a better drummer. Yes, you can adjust the triggers so they are very sensitive and thus don't need to play hard, but then you need to have extreme control of your drumming. I'm far from having extreme control of my drumming so the triggers would go bananas...
