This past Monday, June 2, Rock 'n Roll and Blues legend Bo Diddley died of heart failure. He was 79.

I'd like to take this moment of silence to give my condolences to Mr. Diddley's family and thank him for his selfless and revolutionary contributions to the history of music. Rest in Peace, Bo.

Oh no!!! The world has lost another irreplaceable part of our musical history... RIP Bo Diddley.

I had the privilege of seeing Bo Diddley perform at the Orleans about 10 years ago when I was playing there with Bruce Conte. What an incredible show that man put on - he was the coolest - even at nearly 70 years old! Amazing energy and stage presence. I remember he played the box shaped guitar and completely kicked ass - I had the biggest grin on my face after his performance - it was completely inspiring.

Even Maiden was influenced by what this man did to change the face of popular music - anyone else ever notice that the opening guitar riff to Number of the Beast is actually the metal version of the signature Bo Diddley beat? :headbang:

I said it many times, to understand rock, and to even be able to be a truly great guitarist, one must master the blues. It is people like Bo Diddley, that gave birth to almost every music we listen to now.

Son House>Robert Johnson>John Lee Hooker,Bo Diddley and BB KING, Chuck Berry, T Bone Walker and many others> Everything else.

I consider Bo Diddley the second generation blues. Son House and Johnson, were just a guy on an acoustic guitar, but Diddley and the rest did so much more with the instrument.

I never got see Diddley, and now I am kicking myself for not doing so. I saw Hooker within a year of his death, and it was like being back in time. An unforgettable experience. He was old, and couldn't move well. They had to escort him on stage. He played very few notes but every single note he hit, poured right through your soul.

With so many guitar institutes and teachers around, I really wish they would just make the students learn old blues licks. Blues is about feeling and emotion, and licks. Your guitar needs to cry and wail. This old Southern African American blues foundation is so lost among new music. We need to bridge this gap.

my friend told me the bo diddley shuffle originated from the old "shave and hair cut three bits" - pretty cool huh - that beat has been recycled alot.
RIP BO DIDDLEY

Interesting about the shave and a haircut.
That Bum ba bum ba bum, ba bum bum shuffle in Stones Not Fade Away, Thorogood's Who Do You Love, Springsteen's She's the One, Toto's Rassana, Hand Jive (Grease if you remember) and numerous others, Bo Diddley is credited to starting.
