Just wanted to post a thread in memory of Syd Barrett... he died recently but wasn't announced till today as far as i know... may he Rest in Peace... :worship: :headbang: :kickass:

RIP. Thank you for finding one of the most important bands ever.
Shine on you crazy diamond...

I'm not much of a Floyd fan but it is too bad. Sounds like the rest of the band took care of him and made sure he had what he needed. Pretty cool.

R.I.P. Syd.

Yeah I read in the book Saucerful Full of Secrets that David Gilmour was partial to Syd and made sure that Syd got paid his royalties over the years... so it's probably not the "band" that took care of him or is releasing the statement about his death and such (perhaps also paying for his funeral) but probably Gilmour... Roger Waters never really had a heart for any of the band members but himself... if it is Gilmour... hes a good guy... I'm surprised Syd's death hasn't really been played up in the media much... but then again he was only on one album... but if there was no Syd Barrett there probably would never have been any Pink Floyd... i'm not religious but God bless him... and once again R.I.P.

That it's interesting considering that:

  1. Gilmour replaced Barrett
  2. Waters took PF down eventually downspiraling into more and more depressive attitude because of Barrett's memory (especially "The Wall" and the terrible "The Last Cut"). In the end it makes Wright leaves and eventually cut the band off.

Yes i know Gilmour replaced Barrett... but they were school mates when kids... and Gilmour always felt bad about what happened to him... and always had a soft spot for him because of it... so he made sure Syd wasn't ripped off and received all his royalties over the years which seemed to be his only means of financial support... Even though i dislike Waters (and think he never gave Gilmour enough credit for some of the songwriting) he did which is IMO the right thing when it came to Syd... and I mean this in a purely business sense not personal sense... in a personal sense he screwed Syd by taking away the band he created... but as far as using Syd as the subject of some of PF's songs and/or albums... I think Waters was a genius and that respect and it produced some of the greatest albums of all time (Darkside of the Moon, Wish you Were here and The Wall) ... I love the Wall even though i do not know why other's do not... it's a great album and seems to be very underrated nowadays... Anyways this is all in the book Rolando & crew... anyone who is a diehard Floyd fan should read Saucerful of Secrets... it is "the" book ever written on PF... now if i can just get it back from my ex-coworker... anyways R.I.P. Syd... everyone already said it but Shine On You Crazy Diamond!! :kickass:

Am i weird in that i prefer the more psychedelic 60's stuff than the the rest of their stuff? I know the Gilmour era stuff is more popular and such but i really can't get into it. Honestly, it puts me to sleep, but the Syd Barrett era, i actually kinda like. Pink Floyd will never be one of my favorites, and never were, but i'm still saddened by Syd's death because whether i love them or not, Pink Floyd are legends and he formed them, he's an icon and will be missed and C.) he's responsible for really the only Pink Floyd material i can really get into without feeling like i've downed half a bottle of Nyquil.

RIP Syd Barrett, you'll always live on in spirit.

Agree. He finally took so much control over the band he kill it IMO. Therefore I dislike immensely TFC and don't like Waters solo stuff at all, while I love Gilmour first solo album (I found "On A Island" weak tho)

I love the Wall even though i do not know why other's do not... it's a great album and seems to be very underrated nowadays...

Was my first PF experience, and my first album by them. Nevertheless considering all the stuff from "Atom Heart Mother" to "The Division Bell" I found "The Wall" as the second weakest album after the boring "The Final Cut". It's not bad, just weak in the presence of masterpieces as "Animals"

And who's the fool who wears the crown?
And go down,
in your own way
And every day is the right day
And as you rise above the fear-lines in his brow
You look down, hearing the sound of the faces in the crowd.

R.I.P. SYD shine on man, shine on

The lunatic is underneath the grass...
R.I.P. Syd.

Just say no to drugs kids... cause you might get a brain spasm that fucks up your life. Sid was a great songwriter then done some acid and spent the majority of the rest of his life "growing his toenails" turning old an fat and even his band buddies dumped him. what a waste... :Smokin:
