check out any tune from the dvd, I think any band hitting the stage these days should really watch this type of thing before they consider stepping on stage...

When I was a kid I listened to the CD of this concert like hundreds of times and it made me a Ritchie Blackmore fan for life.

Rainbow in Munich is a great DVD - would loved to have seen the Dio/Blackmore lineup, but unfortunately only saw them separately, Dio as DIO and Heaven & Hell and Blackmore with Joe Lynn turner era Rainbow touring for "Straight Between the Eyes'.

what blows me away is how good they are live, no auto tune etc, basically thats it ! and they are all great !

I hear a lot of new bands starting out and their cd is just amazing, I go to see them live and its like seeing a completely different band, the singer is out of breath, time and tune, the drummer often has various tempos depending on his stamina and some of the guitarist are just out of practice....I think dvds like this are a good tool for young bands to learn what type level of performance should be produced live....it certainly made me think twice before hitting the stage again

Too bad the kids see this and think "Old! Dude, what's with the outfits?? haw-haw!" and dismiss it as irrelevant..

The results you list there are for the simple reason that at one time, you had to have talent to actually release an album or get signed to a label. I music more accessible these days and the ability to get your music out in the public domain much easier as well - hell yea, but that ease has come at a the price of quality. While quantity has certainly gone up, that natural filter that used to be in place to weed out the talentless is gone.

I noted in a recent thread about the new Maiden DVD "En Vivo" that at an average age of 55, the guys in Maiden still deliver the goods with more energy and live capability than the majority of bands half their age. It's a shame really, that I worry whether we will ever really have those "iconic" bands ever again, you know, the kind where 40 years from now their old music can still be called classics.

true Jind, I think the bands/musicians also worked a lot harder prior to going into the studio or had done a lot more preproduction

as for seeing the icons like Maiden, hmmm hard to say...I think we'll a lot more mediocre music before we see iconic...having said that, the average kid learning to play today has access to so much information they can become a much better muso faster - with all the youtube lessons etc....hmm who knows, be interesting to watch

I have this DVD... FANTASTIC performance but not immune to Ritchie's self-indulgent noodly moments. The cover of Mistreated is simply epic. And as for the guitar destruction at the end... I'd hate to be the people in the front row, the guitar was being swung and smashed a few cms from their heads lol.

This band is fucking fantastic!!! I was a kid when my brother came to home with some Rainbow stuff. We can really hear a band that's playing with emotion and vibe. No fake here. Technology is great and modern tools really help to reach higher levels in production, and that's awesome. But the bad point is that REAL feel has totally disappeared in some bands playing. That's about taste after all.
