Randall isolation cab

You see... quite happy to retract prior statements and to update my stance. Those are very clear recordings, and aren't muddy at all (not musically what I'd go for I suppose, but you can't win them all)

Doesn't sound that boxy at all, and I wouldn't have guessed it was a ISO cab from the tone.

"Perish" and "While She's Kneeling" were the two that were mostly to my taste in terms of tone.

The reason I want to hear things on their own is because I'm a subtractive type of guy. I want to capture something in its fullest, and then take away from it with processing - I would prefer a very high quality piece of equipment that I could choose to degrade myself.

For all I know, those demos with the isolation cab, the production could be hiding some nasty biases to certain frequency ranges and even some horrid distortion of the speaker. Things could've been EQ'd out, and you'd never know - because you cannot truly hear a single aspect of a song once it is all congealed together into a produced piece of music. Also a good reason to sit down with just guitarists and not the drummer in your band, so you can hear everything clearly, but I digress....

You just don't know how something truly sounds without hearing it yourself. Next best thing is to hear clear recordings of it. Next best thing after that is to hear it in a mix.

imo.

Do you have downs syndrome?? Seriously, you're putting words in my mouth completely.
Amberience said:
I clearly said nothing of the sort.

Furthermore, the argument was about hearing things clearly, and NOT in a mix. The argument wasn't about whether ISO cabs sound any good. You're basically trying to claim that you can see the sun through dense forestry. If I want to see the sun, I'd rather NOT do it through a canopy of leaves.
Amberience said:
I don't believe it either. Unfortunately in this business, people will accept money to "say" things they might not mean, so endorsements don't hold too much sway with me.

I'd be up for hearing the ISO cab, but not in a mix, and preferably in a room and not as a media file over the internet - because then I'm not really hearing the cab, but I'm hearing someone else's effort of recording that cab.

In response, I'd say:

"sometimes I seriously wish people would post up solo recordings and not full productions for no reason other than to weed out the dickheads who just want to impress the world with their wankery"

This whole "missing the point" thing is fun isn't it!?!:heh:

Hmm. So.... it's perfectly okay for someone to insinuate that I'm "retarded" ... but not okay for me to do it in a blunt less disingenuous manner?

Go fuck yourself.

ps: You're German. It's well known you people lack a sense of humour. But hey.. you make up for it in efficiency!
Amberience said:
"retarded" does not equal "stupid" - you should go get some English lessons.

What I said was no different from what 006 said. The only difference was, he did it in a snide manner, and I did it in a more direct manner. Shit... you could even say that I just asked him a question, and that there was no implication in it! But of course, I'm more honest than that, and yes, I was implying that he was retarded.

You, sir, are being way too sensitive. Anyone else want to tell the big bad man off?
Amberience said:
You're quite funny though.

ps: I ride a penny-farthing.

Actually, I'm Bill Hicks ghost. I was quite funny back in the day, now I just watch Lenny Bruce re-runs.

Since you actually are talking to me like a human, and not a 13 year old girl experiencing her first blobfest... I'll try and communicate with you. What exactly was so off-colour about this post???
Amberience said:
What was it about this post that deserved me being called retarded, and triggering this whole stupid debate where yet again I'm being bamboozled by people. Where did I step out of line?

Answer. I DIDN'T. 006 just cannot read, and since he's been here longer than me, certain people feel the need to jump in and figuratively call me a cunt.

Now.. my entire argument about the ISO cab was NOT that it sounded bad. I made an informed statement based on my experience of hearing sounds inside cupboards and boxes, and I suggested that the ISO cab might sound boxy.

But I also gave my reasons as to why I prefer to hear gear on its own, and not in a mix. Mixing engineers can do many many impressive things, they can make crappy gear sound passable... but its still crappy gear.

So I wanted to hear some clips of the cab on its own. But nooooo... I just get called a retard.

And like most people... when I get called retarded, whether in real life or on the internet, I get offended and I react in uncertain ways. And then we have a situation like this one. It's quite simple logic really.

Thanks for making the new guy feel welcome everyone! :zombie:

Back to the ISO cab....

/end of that crap

If the ISO cab has a natural lean toward bass frequencies, say 80-100hz, and an engineer (or just a guitarist with recording gear) records it and puts an EQ on it to alter those frequencies, then you're not getting a true reflection of what the ISO cab sounds like... and thus you cannot claim to be giving off a demo of anything except your engineering skills.

This is why I'd prefer as plain as possible recordings, with no drums or other instruments.

Actually though, when I do demo's for gear, I do both. It's no big deal for me to solo the tracks I need and to do two exports.

Now... this doesn't in anyway say that I have a predisposition to think that ISO cabs are shit. I have no clue, and I'm suggesting a way to provide the best possible evidence for people to make their decision.

At the end of the day though... you really have to try things for yourself. Nothing beats direct experience.

Well done for being a man and acknowledging all of my points and valid objections. Now, I recommend an Oxford dictionary and thesaurus.
Amberience said:
Okay fair enough, but you do realise that the "gross generalisation" was in fact irony, don't you???

(ie: I don't actually believe everything I say, all the time)

Yes, because me being from Texas has anything to do with anything.

The only point of my original reply was basically that when you have as much experience as I do, maybe you'll understand that your line of thinking on things will be different. There is no right or wrong. I've heard clips of people mic'ing their cabs up with a set of headphones and the tone was absolutely killer. Just because something sounds good in the room means absolutely nothing. At the end of the day what matters is not what a person is using, but how they use it. One day you may learn....until then, you'll keep being defensive on the slightest whim of somebody disagreeing with you. Even if the person disagreeing has way more experience, apparently. Pathetic.

Trust me, fucker, you need it.

Owns self by showing off complete ignorance, arrogance, and lack of critical thinking, not to mention basic social skills, vs. Owns everyone from random balls of ego on the Internet to Tommy Fucking Lee Fucking Jones... winner: 006.

Sounds like someone needs to retake "The Basics of Not Failing At Existence 101" to me. I don't know if you realize that the only fitting way to describe your fail before was to quote one of the biggest movie fails of our time, but it does now seem that you are the one who will bring the fail to this forum.

So let's count the fails... doesn't know what DAW stands for (and, even better, acts condescending with "That's desktop audio workstation, for those of you who don't know"), doesn't know how to accept that someone may know something he doesn't, makes an incredibly idiotic comment about 5-string basses, has an entire thread dedicated to his fail and doesn't realize it, is practically unanimously dubbed the most annoying newbie on the forum, accepts fail once and attempts to repent but cannot stop, makes an idiotic and sweeping statement about Krank, again doesn't know how to accept that someone may know something he doesn't, and to top it all off messes with Texas.

That's a pretty epic paragraph of fail. Fortunately, registration at HCAF is still free and you seem like just their type.

Jeff...thank you again. I started my day at work with a good laugh from your previous post, and I'm ending my work day after this epic post (which was well worth the wait). You're my hero Jeff. :) You deserve a beer today too. :kickass:

ROFL holy shit Jeff that cracked me up.

Also, Amb, I would like your address because I want to send you this:
