Pretty much my first proper rig arrived today... I've always been a 'cheap modeling direct bandit', and borrowed dads old pieces of crap and that sort of thing.

So now I'm a cheap rig bandit! (hopefully it doesn't die, that'd be a backfire.. I was warned but it seemed that the bad apples were the 200w version)

I'm happy at this point. This all happened within about 2hrs of lighting her up at most.

SM58 with the pop filter off (does this = 57 or what?), against cloth, slighty off center of cone pointing straight on. Guess the rest and you'll likely be right .. except the high filter ended up so high(19-ish) that it's not really relevant. At about 12k it seemed to kill something I liked... but then I'm "monitoring" through a 4yr old panasonic hi-fi so fuck knows hah!
Oh and it's only 1L 1R which is probably obvious.

What do ya'll think?

sounds pretty good with drums dood my guitarplayer just got himself a Randall too.. good to know they can sound this good :hotjump:

i never realy worked with them...but my guitarplayer has one with a green logo on the front can't remember the name.. anyway... hope it sounds just as good.

Mic preamp ..just one of the 2 on my sound card...thingy. C-Port... http://www.staudio.com/products/dsp2000.html

I had to use most of the preamps power too, because I recorded at roughly a loud talking level.

I'm the wrong person to ask that, sorry. I bought the C-port a few years ago and I had no idea about recording gear at the time (still don't really), it just seemed like a cool upgrade from a soundblaster..eheh. (still got the sb in as a sampler basically)

I'd guess that people will say any tube preamp would be better, than the c-ports preamps. But the c-port is obviously more than just that.

I'm all for this turning into a c-port vs ***** thread, cause I'm tossing up whether to keep it or not.

The Behringer Tube preamps are pretty bad, the 8-channel adat interface they do is better. Most tube preamps sub-$500 are pretty rubbish and thier solid state counterparts are much better.

About the amp, sounds really nice. I may have to look and see how much they cost as I'm having to sell my tube rack due to it's weight and being skint!!

The clip sounds pretty good on my crappy soundblaster speakers here at work.

There's some serious "whistling" going on, though. Try to notch eq out the noise, probably about 2khz.
