Even though I am a HUGE fan of Zakk Wylde I am still going to have to say Randy on this one. He died tragically young and I think he had alot more music in him that I wish could have been made!

I personally am not a fan of Zakk Wylde...he's a damn good lead player, sure, but the actual music he writes is abysmal and boring. Randy Rhoads was one of the top groundbreaking, style-defining metal guitarists with his classical influences, not to mention he simply wrote great songs. This is no contest  .

:Smug:

I love them both, but i have to give the nod to Zakk. Comparing their bodies of work, noting that Zakk has a larger catalogue, I prefer his playing. With the exception of Mikael Åkerfeldt form Opeth (which I consider to be in a completely different genre), Zakk is hands down my favorite guitarist. He fuckin rules!! I am sure there are plenty of people who will argue with me, but that's their problem. Randy WAS a guitar god, but Zakk IS a guitar god!!

I would definately have to go with Randy Rhodes on this one... I find that some times, Zakk's music can be a little boring, but he is a very good lead player... very good.

Zakk... I love them both severely, but that's all I'm saying

Most of what Zakk plays these days falls into that whole NOLA Pantera type of music, and I really don't care for that. Rhoads was fucking metal...Diary of a Madman...Blizzard of Oz...post-Rhoads I really don't like Ozzy albums one bit.

I just don't get all the praise for Randy Rhoads. I'm missing the album that put him above the rest. The Ozzy albums are fantastic hard rock albums, but is there something soo special about them that I just can not hear? Or was it the Quiet Riot album which made him standout? I don't get it. As far as who do I like more.....neither. Both these guitarist are somewhat equal(Zakk, of course, has had the time to show off and prove his skill). I'll always have Randy Rhoads in my changer, as well as Zakk. Both have recorded songs that will never be forgotten and always enjoyed.

Apparently you have never heard Blizzard Of Ozz...You're saying you are missing the album that put him above the rest, Blizzard Of Ozz is that album. If you have Blizzard Of Ozz put on track #7 (Revelation Mother Earth) and listen to THE GUITAR ONLY. That should be proof enough why he is WAY above the rest! Another example could be his solo in Mr. Crowley which is absolutely priceless. There are quite a few guitarists who were influenced by Randy, including Zakk Wylde. I honestly cannot think of a guitarist out there today that has half as much raw talent as Randy had. James Murphy comes quite close, but I think even he is a few steps below Randy.

Zakk may be a good guitar player, but his music is absoloutely boring, and his attitude sucks. RANDY RHODES actually did something to move the Metal genre forward.

i think that zakk wylde is one of the most overrated guitar player ever...

his style suck and he is also a fuckin rude southern man ...

an ugly clone of ted nugent...

on the other hand randy rhoads reinvented metal guitar and maybe also guitat generally speaking...

yes ozzy post rhoads is fuckin crap and sometimes also commercial sell out...(except maybe "ultimate sin")

so LONG LIVE RANDY RHOADS!!!!!

:D

You motherfucker!

Nah, kidding. Disagree with ya completely though, but hey, thats how it is. No biggie.

Although, I should say Zakk is from New Jersey. Far from a southern boy. But I can see how you'd think he'd be from the south, obviously, but that isnt the case.

 Ted Nugent? Uh, Zakk could singe Ted's nut hair just by plugging in. Dont see what youre getting at there. You could say that Zakk's beer fetish is akin to Ted's hunting fetish maybe, but that's still stretching it a bit.

I vote for Zakk. Cuz he got the upper hand by being influenced by Sir Rhoads. He can do what Randy could, and he adds his own thing with the southern rock vibe. I think what's going unnoticed here is Zakk's versatility.

We all know about Randy and wanting to go on to classical guitar after Ozzy. That's great and all, really. I know he got cut short. But Zakk hasnt, so he's done the Ozzy thing, kinda found his niche and all, then did the Pride and Glory thing which was totally southern rock ala Skynyrd only beefed up on steroids and more beer. Then filled in for Dickey Betts of the Allman Brothers when he couldnt play, then did his own acoustic solo album, then formed sludge metal BLS...all the while throwing out little snippets with various tracks on compilations and collaborations that vastly differed from other stuff he did. Case and point-listen to the song "Farm Fiddlin" off the Guitars That Rule The World II compilation. That song is stunning. Randy couldnt play that shit if he was alive, I'll tell you that.

Let the flaming begin!
