Rate and Slate my new metal mix/master!

i have just finished doing this tune, i haven't had the vocalist over yet to record so it is just an instrumental as it stands. If you could let me know what you think of the overall sound of the song and the mix/master in general, that would be awesome!

Drums sound very weird. Kick, snare and bass guitar all get lost in compression and mud. Hard to judge the rest of the mix before you have sorted that out. Also the cymbals are way too loud.

ok guys, thanks for the input...the drums were bugging me too. Listening to bands i like i can clearly hear the kick and snare coming through but in mine they are lost completely. How do you make them stand out more, im guessing its not just as simple as turning everything else down until you can hear them? what sort or EQ areas make a snare poke through? With regards to compression i tried out parallel compressing the drum track, does that basically mean the compressed track is up far too loud? thanks for the help, iv just got some proper monitor speakers today too so hopefully that will make a little bit less of a tool!
