James Hetfield (Metallica) = 1, but 3 on the first 2 albums

Ripper Owens (Judas Priest) = 6 on record, 9 live

Vince Neil (Motley Crue) = 8 simply for the attitude

David Coverdale (Whitesnake) = 7, sounds excellent on 1987

Troops, I cant take anything your glam self says seriously, but this is just ridiculous! What the hell were you thinking?
Hetfield is worse than Mustaine? WTF?
Ripper is awesome on Winters Bane! Awesome studio and live vocalist!
Vince Neil an EIGHT? VINCE NEIL?
Coverdale a 7? DAVID FREAKING COVERDALE one of the greatest voices ever a 7?

Go stand in the f**king corner

I hate Hetfield's voice except on Kill 'Em All and most of Ride The Lightning. Mustaine has cool snarl.

I haven't heard Winters Bane. All I know is that Ripper sounds BRILLIANT live singing Priest classics, which means his voice would obviously be just as good in the studio, but I don't like how he chooses to sing on his Priest albums. Don't like his style on them, does nothing for me.

Vince Neil: "simply for the attitude". Similar to why I gave Alice a high mark. I wasn't marking their technical ability but how cool their voice sounds and how it suits their band. Vince has killer attitude in his voice, it's the definitive LA glam voice and he's irreplacable really.... it's gone downhill a little since around Feelgood and got more nasal sounding, but on Shout At The Devil especially it just sounds fantastic!

Coverdale is an awesome vocalist but I dunno... for some reason he's just never clicked with me like alot of others have...

:)

Spawny, looking at those "Meh"s in your list.... I think it is my duty to make you a little list of recommended listening!

'80s Anthrax!!! Check out their first 3 albums "Fistful Of Metal" (1984), "Spreading The Disease" (1985) and "Among The Living" (1987). Awesome melodic thrash from New York with high vocals. Kinda like a thrash version of classic Priest/Maiden type stuff.

Ratt!!! These guys were one of the best glam bands ever, very sharp, tight and heavy with killer attitude and great raunchy grooves and MEAN riffs! Their first 2 albums, "Out Of The Cellar" (1984) and "Invasion Of Your Privacy" (1985) are full of awesome heavy nasty metal riffs, their 3rd album "Dancing Undercover" (1986) has almost as much heaviness and crunch as their first 2 but is even better coz it flows so much more and has killer sleaze grooves especially in the song Slip Of The Lip, and their 5th album "Detonator" (1990) is awesome too, not as heavy, but much better songs, grooves and hooks than the first few. Great production too, and really amazing and sexy sounding lead guitar work from Warren DeMartini! You could try their best of "Ratt & Roll 8191" to start with... goes through their singles from their '83 EP to Detonator and has a new song too which is cool.

DOKKEN! *^%$#@)^%$)@ If you like Dungeon you would like Dokken coz they sound similar except Dokken aren't speed/power metally, they're melodic hard rock/metal. Get their '80s stuff... "Back For The Attack" (1987) is one of the best metal albums of the '80s full stop, unbelievable!!! "Under Lock & Key" (1985) is a fantastic album too.... "Tooth & Nail" (1984) is pretty cool... and their live album "Beast From The East" (1988) is AWESOME!!! Don Dokken sounds heaps like Lord Tim, and George Lynch's solos are soooooooo good! As soon as you hear songs like Night By Night, Prisoner, Heaven Sent, Unchain The Night, The Hunter, etc you will just be like "Oh my god this guy is the best guitarist ever!"

There we go, my work is done :)

I won Among The Living and some other album by Anthrax, plus their best of, I dont see whats so great about them to be honest, im mystified as to why they are ever considered as being as good as Slayer, Deth and Metallica  Its not bad by any means, but I dont see the big deal!

Might buy Out Of The Cellar tomorrow along with Primal Fear then...

Back For The Attack is added also :D

I just prefer Anthrax over Slayer coz Joey can sing and Tom can't, and their riffs are much catchier too...

Any of the Ratt albums from 84-90 are all equally good really (except Reach For The Sky is weaker), they al have different strengths but all very solid! I think "Detonator" is the best album.

Back For The Attack you can't go wrong with :)

Bruce Dickinson (Iron Maiden) = 10
Blaze Bayley (Iron Maiden, Blaze) = 7 (I love his voice though)
Paul DiAnno (Iron Maiden) = 7 (Has still got a great voice when he wants)
Paul Stanley (Kiss) = 8

Dave Mustaine (Megadeth) = 1
Rob Halford (Judas Priest) = 9

Ronnie James Dio (Dio, Rainbow, Sabbath) = 10
Tony Martin (Black Sabbath) = 8

Axl Rose (Guns N Roses) = anywhere between 2 and 9
Bret Michaels (Poison) = 2
Vince Neil (Motley Crue) = between 4 and 8
Andi Deris (Helloween, Pink Cream 69) = 8 (Love his voice!)
Tobias Sammett (Edguy) = 9
Matt Barlow (Iced Earth) = 7 (but seemingly getting better all the time)
Hansi Kursch (Blind Guardian) = He's probably an 8, but I hate him.
Danny Cecati (Pegazus, Eyefear) = Is he the guy with really long hair? If so - 10!!
Blackie Lawless (W.A.S.P.) = 9 (really only a 7, but :headbang: 's)
Alice Cooper = between 5 and 9
Geoff Tate (Queensryche) = 8-9
James LaBrie (Dream Theater) = 8-9
Don Dokken (Dokken) = No balls, but an 8 nevertheless
Dee Snider (Twisted Sister) = 9! (Same deal as Blackie)
Warrel Dane (Sanctuary, Nevermore) = 7

Did Gene screw your sister or something? You hate this guy with passion!

Only 5 for Tobias? 2 for LabBrie?

I've never liked his voice. I think he sounds great on Unholy, War Machine, Calling Dr. Love, Not For The Innocent, A World Without Heroes and Domino.... but most of his other songs I think would sound better with Paul singing. Even ones like Dance All Over Your Face, Good Girl Gone Bad, etc which he sounds pretty good on, I think Paul would sound better on.

Tobias has a great voice but I'm not into that crystal clear power metal singing. He would've got a 7 from me but the wobbly vibrato thing he does ALL the time gets annoying lol. Actually nah upgrade it to a 7 maybe.... Just thinking of some Edguy stuff now and he is pretty cool.

LaBrie I really really hate with a passion. One of the worst sounding singers I've ever heard. I can't stand him!

Ohh yeah, and Danny is the guy with the reaaaaaaally long hair! Brilliant brilliant voice! His scream at the end of "Metal Forever" on Breaking The Chains by Pegazus is one of the all time best metal screams I reckon!

"METAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAL" (Held over about 8 bars)

Nah a Dokken best of won't do... because then you won't have all 13 tracks from Back For The Attack! :) That entire album is essential! Except for maybe Burning Like A Flame, and I'm guessing that is one of the ones on the best of lol. And pretty much all of Under Lock & Key is essential listening also :)
