Have you ever exposed any of Kayo Dot's(and perhaps motW's)music to your friends or family?

I was playing Gemini Becoming A Tripod in the kitchen while studying, and the parents came in. Mom started ranted for minutes about how she was surprised not about "certain people who do way too much drugs" being able to produce such music, but rather that I listen to it and appreciate it. Then she told me how the musicians were nihilistic and had disdain for "real music" but couldn't write shit on their own. Dad was drunk and tried to tell me how the track was an obvious Uriah Heep rip-off, so I had to drive them out of the room.

And one other time was at school, when I we had to introduce a band's music and I played The Manifold Cuirosity. I had to turn it down after less than 3 minutes because everybody had complained about "having to wait too long for music to come out". Talk about closed-minded people. :erk:

Feel free to share about exposures to any kinds of unusual musicks as well.

My dad sat through King Crimson's Providence, which is composed improvisation, took him two cigarettes and a lot of nervous gesturing, but at the end said he found the approach fascinating, but also not something he would like to listen to. Ever again.

So I haven't tested him much with Kayo Dot or motW. Friends and assorted musicians I've shared them with however usually either like them or love them. And I was very much enamoured with a woman who when inspecting the lyrics of the track 'Heaven and Weak' proclaimed that 'this is the most vicious threat I have ever seen put to music'.

yeah my brother made my parents listen to this nonsense!
hahaha

My mom appreciates a lot of the weirder stuff I'm into, but I don't think I've played her Kayo Dot. She's really into a lot of the stoner junk I listen to though, since it's pretty much an extension of a lot of the music she grew up with, it makes sense. I sure just said a lot a lot. Whoops.

General reception to Choirs of the Eye was positive with friends, although I think only one really digs the band. Haven't tried Dowsing Anemone yet, generally my friend's attention spans are pretty low when we're playing DJ Night. Mostly because there's lots of ralcohol involved before yelling DDUUUUUUUUUED YO UGOTAT HERE ATHITS.
