Rebuttal for Malmsteen Haters

This should have been posted in the main forum. I hate it when people irrationally hate artists/bands. It's one thing to say "I don't like the singer's voice" or "I just never got into them." I mentioned Yngwie to a friend of mine and he got all pissed off, going on an on about how much he hated him. When I asked why he said "I dunno, I just do." What the flip?

I remeber I asked a girl what she thought of nightwish. She got irrationally violent. I wish she could take your advice.

*bracing myself for beelzebub's reply*

*Punches soundgarden in the face* Have fun going to MSG to see TSO by yourself, beeeyatch! :p

And for the record, my dislike of Nightwish is teeming with rationality.

ahhh, see you didn't give your reasons. I apologize :worship:

That last paragraph is similar to something I always tell people. You can always play slower than your fastest speed, but you can never play faster. Someone who has the ability to play 16ths at 200bpm doesn't have to, but he has the option to. His options are far more than a guy who tops out at 120bpm.

Maybe she has a secret lesbian crush on Tarja and she's in denial or something...

Anyway, I love Yngwie's solos on Derek Sherinian's "Black Utopia." They're especially good in track 6, when they appear back-to-back with Zakk Wylde's crappy overused blues bullshit.

That's a fantastic article in and of itself. I'm so sick of Emo kids saying that they don't bother learning the skill cause they would rather it be about emotion than showing off. Fact of the matter is the more physical skill you have, the more options you have at your disposal and chances are you have also come up with some creative and innovative ideas along the road of learning tough songs and pieces.

However, while I like a lot of Yngwie's stuff, it's a bit much to take everything this article says and ascribe it to him as the model to patent oneself after. For one, Yngwie's creativity died out shortly after learning the minor and harmonic minor scales. He's got his bag of tricks, the same runs he puts in any solo passage in any song. The true virtuoso would embellish more to fit songs and progressions and push the boundaries of his skills and mental set on music. Additionally, Yngwie constantly gets out of time and just resolves the problem by bending a note until he can find his place again. The man is not without his short comings. It's alright to criticize him for that; I think the article is more along the lines of establishing the idea that you shouldn't criticize someone just because they inject a lot of flash and technical skill into their playing as if it is simply to show off or as if it drains pieces of their emotional quality.

I somewhat agree, malmsteens playing has gone a bit downhill
But i think a great example of what syxified is describing would be steve vai.
dont get me wrong though malmsteen is still an awesome guitarist
