Red Label appreciation thread

You know what did suck salty testes last time I bought it from the duty free? Glenlivet 18 years. Absolute horseshit. On the other hand, Highland Park and Glenfiddich 15 were phenomenal.

haha

A year ago I'd have agreed with Neal, but fortunately I have recently seen the proverbial scotch light. Yummy delicious stuff. Oddly, its bite is the reason I never liked it before, but now one of my favorite things about it. Nothing beats a flask full of good scotch on a backpacking trip deep in the mountains.

Ageing dude, ageing. There are some cheeses I may have vomited right up even a few years ago, now I want them in my belly with lots of peaty whisky.

I have some Glenlivet 12. Not very good. Glenfiddich 12 blows it away

I'm actually one to go the other way around on this one. For cheaper single malt I've always preferred Glenlivet 12 over Glenfiddich 12. I'm not trying to be contrary, I actually really like Glenlivet.

Hmm. Wierd.
The Glenlivet is too flowery. I like the fruityness of the Glenfiddich.
Actually enjoy the Glenfiddich 12 more than the 15.
Are there any other Speysides similar to the Glenfiddich 12?

That's exactly why I like The Glenlivet. I love the aroma and the flowery/vanilla notes. It's also got a much smoother finish than that of the Glenfiddich. Also, as far as Speyside stuff goes, I've had Dailuaine 16 - It was very similar in character to the Glenlivet, just a tad smoother. I've also had Ardmore Single Malt. It had a nice blend of vanilla and fruit with a surprisingly peaty finish that sneaks up on you.
