Renegade Armada - my most recent work (Mastered by Machine at Machine shop)

Sounds really nice, but that song would have worked better for the singer a couple of half steps down I think, or at least she sounds reaaaaaally on the edge at some spots.

Cheers dude! Actually... Believe it or not, she's even higher in some of the other songs :/ this one would be moderate to hard in her usual range, so she can pull it off pretty well live! Some of the other stuff will be difficult thoigh I'm sure. I do think they're planning to tune half a step or a step down live though. Smart move

I would agree that she is very shouty performance wise - you've mixed it really well though, female singers with a lot of presence like that are a really difficult balancing act.

I'm really glad you mentioned that to be honest :p I felt the whole way through that her vocal style was very hard to find a happy medium in the music between the lower stuff and the higher stuff so I did spend quite some time trying to get that balance right. I maybe still feel it isn't perfect, but it's definitely the extent of my own abilities for sure :)

Really?
Well it might be her singing style for the higher parts...it sounds pretty similar to when someone tries to force out a note that is too high. But I listened to it again, and it's funny cause it seems to be a phrasing thing, cause at some parts she hits the same note easier.

Anyway, it doesn't sound bad once you got used to it, and the song is pretty nice :headbang:

And yeah man, has nothing to do with your mix, the mix is pretty sweet too.
Those kind of vocals are a bitch (no pun intended) to get right.

Totally man! For me, this was a fairly different style than I usually do, so I was happy to really try to encompass the band as a whole and not make suggestions/ comments that might sort of make it stray from the original intention. Her overall vocal style being one of them. I'm definitely happy with how it came out thoigh, no doubt :)

I said that because I have definitely been there before and faired very poorly in comparison  Some female vocalists can go so high only dogs can hear it man, its ridiculous.

Line666@ dude, I'll post the more ridiculous song once they release it haha. It's quite noticeably higher than this! :p

Cheers Erik! Yep, I did at least get to track it all. It was an insane amount of time fr vocal tracking, but it was very well worth it. Minimal editing, heaps of multi layers/ harmonies etc :)
