(Round Hill)
Fifteen songs in tribute to one of the greatest hard rock bands with a slew of rockers on the roster reminding everyone how talented singer/guitarist Rik Emmett, drummer and singer Gil Moore, and Mike Levine (bass/keyboards) are as both musicians and songwriters.
Sebastian Bach kicks off the playlist with an abridged version of “24 Hours A Day” into “Rock N Roll Machine” with Kenny Aronoff on drums, Todd Kerns on bass, and Bumblefoot laying down some serious guitar leads. Joey Belladonna (Anthrax) another great vocal choice for this straightforward rendition of “Magic Power”, as is Mickey Thomas (Jefferson Starship) for an edgier guitar from Phil X, joined by Tommy Aldridge on drums for the punchy rocker “Spellbound”.
“Lay It On The Line” with Dee Snider also has more texture given his vocal tone and it works well. “Somebody Is Out There” is slightly reinterpreted without losing the arrangement or the melody with Lawrence Gowan (Styx). On “Never Surrender”, Dean Castronovo, I mean is this guy a drummer, or a singer, because he’s double the talent. Tesla’s Jeff Keith favors his less gritty tone for “Hold On” and sounds great.
“Fight The Good Fight” is a Zepplin-ish reworked mellow delivery, Heart’s Nancy Wilson singing with acoustic and clean guitars. Enjoyable. “Follow Your Heart” with Phil X and Reb Beech (Winger) on lead guitars, Jack Blades singing for this radio rocker, yup, I’ll take this combo on more music. P
hil X takes the lead vocal for a modern toned riff (like his solo music) on “Allied Forces”. And Dino Jelusick with Joel Hoekstra on guitar close the album with a more traditional version of “Fight The Good Fight (encore)”.
