(Nuclear Blast)
Five years in since last full-length, Solitude In Madness, Poland’s finest thrashing death metallers Vader are back with three-song EP Humanihility. I’m always a fan of less is more with extreme music, so this does the trick just fine (although after five years, I could have used a full-length).
Opener “Genocide Designed” is prime modern Vader: the thrash propels the death and vice versa, the hooks are there, the tempo just right in that sweet spot. “Rampage” ramps up the Slayer worship, divebomb solos coming in quick, everything just a manic, white-knuckle race to a slower groove part that lasts all of two seconds before the chaos begins again.
“Unbending” gets a bit more mid-tempo, and shows how adept the band is at navigating that space as well; there’s even a bit of Seasons In The Abyss atmosphere in this one, a nice touch. The EP under 10 minutes all in, and, again, that’s just fine with me.
If I need more Vader, I’ve got a vast, excellent catalogue to look through, and these three new songs show that there’s only more pure Polish DM glory to come.
