THE HEAVY METAL BOX

Headbangers rejoice -- Rhino's finally come up with a definitive 4-CD musical survey for you! The Heavy Metal Box gathers 70 choice selections tracing the evolution of metal during its first golden age between 1968 and 1991. Among the more than five hours of fist-pumping favorites are signature songs from Blue Cheer, Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, Iron Maiden, Ted Nugent, Judas Priest, Motorhead, Dokken, Scorpions, Quiet Riot, Metallica, Pantera, Slayer, and many, many more. From prog metal to speed metal to hair metal to death metal, this collection has it all and then some. In addition to the usual meticulous liner notes, artist tributes, and rare photos, Rhino's design team went balls-to-the-wall on this set, housing it in limited edition packaging that resembles an amplifier (with a turn-able Marshall knob that goes to 11, of course).

Pre-order now and save !! Just $50.23 before Oct. 2nd

Not something I'll bother with since I don't much care for various artists releases, but hats off to this package anyway, since Rhino does most things with a huge touch of class. I'm basically hoping they buy up the back catalogues of ALL my favorite bands. Their treatment of everyone from Sabbath to The Grateful Dead has been fantastic.

True. Funny because I remember when they were a joke label. Catered to novelty records, and the like. Still have, somewhere, the Rhino compilations of 'The World's Worst Records' & 'The World's Worst Records II'. Both compilations of the best of the worst Dr. Demento type novelty songs...brilliant in their horribleness.:headbang:

Yeah, Rhino does a fantastic job. They've done a fantastic job with metal in the past few years.

agreed but rhino does a great job with everything. i like how they basically tell an artist if they want their catalogue remastered they have to give them bonus tracks. how many record labels just rerelease the same product with nothing new except improved sound. sometimes the bonus tracks make the remaster a must purchase especially the grateful deads catalogue

Actually, most remastered CDs destroy a lot of the dynamics of the music and can end up sounding weaker and less punchy the originals (especially on discs before 1995). It's the reason why many people insist on having the original masters.

i should have said that differently. its more like the sound is at a level that is louder and makes it easier to hear without turining up your stereo. you are right a lot of times the songs loose any dynamics it had

This set is damn good. Well thought out...although clearly for the more casual metal fan. Not one I'll pick up, as I already own no less than 50 of the 70 tracks. The rest I don't like anyway...:Smug:
