Rick Allen recently spoke with Eddie Trunk on SiriusXM’s Trunk Nation. During the conversation, they talked about Raven Drum Foundation’s 2nd Annual Benefit Concert and upcoming Def Leppard shows.

SiriusXM’s Trunk Nation, hosted by Eddie Trunk, airs daily at 3 PM ET on SiriusXM’s Faction Talk. Listen now at SiriusXM’s Trunk Nation.

Allen on Raven Drum Foundation’s 2nd Annual Benefit Concert:

Rick Allen: “It’s awesome. This will be the second time we’re doing this, you know, to be honoring Peter. He so deserves it. He’s such a sweet guy and he so deserves so much, you know. I mean, he blazed the trail, you know. I mean, I can remember as a kid listening to Peter and it really inspired me. So it’s the least we can do to honor him. The main reason for doing this event in New York is really raising awareness and raising funds for our first responders. So that has been our primary focus. We haven’t moved away from working with our veterans. That is still a primary focus, but the severity of the fire season this year in particular, you know, over there and here in California, we just really felt a need to continue the good work and bring awareness.

“You know, not too many people really think about what happens in a first responder’s life when you dial 911. And the fact that this particular first responder was probably putting out fires yesterday and could have been, you know, dealing with a car accident or an overdose, you name it. So really, our focus has to be on the health of our first responders. We need to keep them healthy, especially because they’re the ones running in when people are running out, you know? So we feel like it’s really important that we continue this work, and I just feel really blessed that we’ve got all these people that are coming to help.

“You know, not only Peter Criss, if you’ve heard of the legendary R&B drummer, Bernard Purdie, he’s gonna be there, and he’s just such a sweetheart. We’ve got Mickey Curry. He’s gonna be there. And if you’ve heard of Corky Laing with Mountain, he’s gonna be there. And a whole host of other drummers that were, you know, that were so kind as to say yes to helping with this. So we’re just really blessed that we’re able to put on an event like this and attract so many incredible musicians.”

Allen on the setlist for upcoming Def Leppard shows:

Rick Allen: “It’s not necessarily focusing on any particular record, even though we are always working on new music. I think because it, the nature of the tour is really centered around festival settings. So I think in that situation it’s good to play music that people really want to hear. So I think it’s kind of cool, you know, that we’re doing this. So we do have some shows that are ours. Like there are some amphitheater shows. There are shows that are, you know, that are our shows as it were. But I think for most of the shows, they’re gonna be festivals. So I think just come out there guns blazing and just show people what we can do, you know?”
