Robert Plant won a few Grammys

The problem with all on this board, and I include myself, is that we are NOT the audience the album was intended for, I mean, how many of us have any Alison Kraus albums? Metal and Hard Rock fans have called the album boring but blues, and country fans are raving over it.
I've read many ridiculous reviews of the album where they AGAIN complain that it doesn't sound like Zeppelin (!). I for one applaud Robert Plant for going in a new direction and being succesful at it. Regardless of what you think of the Grammys as an award, Plant and Kraus have made a very worthwile and succesful album in a genre that is most definetly NOT anybodys idea of "commercial".
I also applaud him for NOT doing the obvious and going on a reunion tour with Zeppelin, that would be "selling out". The man's got integrity.

Listen I'm a fan of blues, country and some bluegrass and I don't get this album.... I'm familiar with Alison Kraus, in fact she and John Waite did a cover of "Missing You" that wasn't that bad this pairing with Plant just don't do a thing for me...

I'm with you. I don't have the cd, but I like what I've heard. It's original music that seems to defy any catagory. I can't believe people want it to be like old Zep. Years ago Plant said he always wants to make new music not relive the past. Either way, good for them. And good for the "grammy's":Smug: for not chosing hip hop :puke: this year.

The Grammys and the toilet paper have a lot in common, only the toilet paper it's actually useful :heh:

And of course kudos to Robert Plant for having his work recognized, regardless of the award.

Actually, I have a number of Alison Krauss cds & enjoy them very much. I was pretty excited about the concept of the Krauss/Plant disk when it was first announced, but found it to be very disappointing. Not impressed at all with the song selection or performances. They don't try to duet much at all... it's just Plant sings a song, Krauss sings a song, etc, etc. I'd rather listen to a Krauss album or Plant's Mighty Rearranger over this one. Not really sure how it managed to become such a critic's darling.

Why wouldn't they nominate the Day That Never Comes? I've never even heard My Apocalypse on radio.

Funny enough in Sept when their album came out, were in London (Ontario - a city of 400 000) and their rock station played the song 6 times. It seemed every time we got back into the car they were playing that song. Was nuts.

Speaking of the grammys... you just gotta wonder who are these people who pick the nominees each year. Completely irrelevant.

I freakin hate the Grammy's. Nothing but hip hop. I hate hip hop. Grammy's just make me :ill:. On a high note, I was watching a country music video today and it sounded like plane ass rock and roll with a Dobro. The ending of the song had a :Smokin: guitar solo and the female singer was bangin her head!!! I was like, Right On! Maybe I can get into some of this country stuff. :)

I really don't think Plant/Kraus deserved that award... the album was mediocre... I don't mind a album of that genre winning that catergory but that album definetly did not deserve it... btw Desert Demon... us old schoolers do listen to other music other then metal..

I think you're on to something. Everyone I talk to seem to like this album.. except the metalheads. Maybe it just comes down to expectations.. I didn't have any since I haven't followed Plant's career since Zeppelin.. and I was pretty sure it wasn't gonna sound like anything of that nature..

I like to think of most metalheads as a fairly open minded bunch. But then I get proven wrong on that by the online metal community in general. All I can do is take my self as a very humble example. I like hardcore metal, classic rock, classical, contemporary jazz, you name it. I guess I'm just weird that way. My head knows good music, and depending on my mood, I either want to hear Plant/Kraus or Celtic Frost or Mozart.

The only thing I can't stand is Hip Hop. Or dance music in general. Which is why I hate the Grammey's.

I'd agree, so many metalheads seem to have some kind of super select hearing mechanism even amounst similar metal bands, then theres the metal or die attitude. I have always thought that my years with Zep and all the changes they made and styles they played that that may be somewhat responsible for a more diverse taste, plus bands were all different back then, they were their own style not part of some subgenre and brought many elements to their music. Then again many metalheads listen to more diverse music than me, stuff I couldnt stomach, which is actually the case with any metal in which the vocalist does not sing.

I'm guilty on both counts, but I'm too stubborn to change :saint:

The different kind of music Zep made during their 10 years can't be underestimated either. It was all rock and blues based, but they explored and inovated until the end. Makes me wonder what they would sound like now if they were still a band.

Liked the album when it came out but rarely play it now. Usually, I'll revisit old favourites like Big Log, Anniversary, Like I've Never Been Gone & Easily Lead for a Plant fix.
