British record producer Roy Thomas Baker has died at the age of 78. Baker produced the first four Queen albums, including their legendary A Night At The Opera album. His death occurred in Lake Havasu City, AZ on April 12, 2025 with his announced coming today (April 22).
Baker worked with many famed artists and albums, including Journey’s Infinity and Evolution, Foreigner’s Head Games, the soundtrack to Heavy Metal, four albums with The Cars, Ozzy Osbourne’s No Rest For The Wicked and Cheap Trick’s One On One.
During his tenure as Senior VP of A&R with Elektra Records in the ‘80s, he oversaw the signings of Metallica and 10,000 Maniacs.
Later on in his career he would oversee The Darkness’ One Way Ticket To Hell…And Back in 2005 and Smashing Pumpkins’ Zeitgeist in 2007.
