on the front of with oden on our side it says "with oden on our side" in runes. the s rune or sowilo, sowilu is different. just wondering if anyone knows anything about it that would be helpful.

It's just a later version of the sowilo rune than the one that's usually used. There were slight changes of the runes over time (you're looking at 2000 years of changes in culture, at least), and there are geographical differences, too. Danish runes differ slightly from Sweidish and Norwegian ones, which are very diffrent from Ogham runes, and so on. There are "short hand " runes, and then there are also differences in the futhark itself, between the elser and the younger futhark. One containing 16 characters, the other 24 (or more). Arild Hauge's home page is very good for this, if you want to google it.

i asked johan this very question. he said it was because the elder Futhark rune is often used for nazi groups and stuff, so they used that one instead, while all the other letters are in elder futhark because they don't want people thinking they are a nazi band and what not

hmm... a very good idea!... coz nazis used the "S" rune for their special squad or whatever...think is was the SS...hell, they gave bad reputation to such important symbols.

stop being a cry baby bloodland.. and yes, of fucking course it was the SS. read a book and you'll probably be more credible.

anyway i had noticed that different futhark and i knew it was for that reason.. i noticed it wasn't the usual "S" rune... yet i'm too lazy to pick up my wooos copy now but i remember noticing that somewhere in the booklet they forgot to change one "s" rune and left the usual one.

can you suggest me one my nationalist friend?!.... coz you really seem to understand these things in a very fine detail... i rely myelf on you... don't forget to suggest me the book...10x :p

Never mind about the nazis, bloodland. They've borrowed so many runes and symbols for each little branch over here than none of them are safe anymore. For the latest loan, you'll have to check on the internet, cuz by the time a book comes out in print, some group somewhere has splintered off another and need their own "new" rune, and it's just impossible to keep up with unless you're a member yourself.
If you want to read books on runes, read Nigel Pennick. His books are very good and not full of far-fetched "I guess that's how they did it" stuff.

just wondering but why is norse or viking history linked to fascism or nazism is it just because of the "SS" or are there other things that have been stolen and used by racists, fascist, nazis and all that?

there is a large part of the answer youre seaking in the 'viking mythology...' thread if you are very interested about searching. i dont know the exact page, but anyway, reading it all is a very very interresting thread where you might learn more than one thing, therefore, getting answers to more than 1 unasked questions ;)

It's a bitch of a problem, but you know what... if we gave up everything that's been "contaminated" by some jackass misusing it, we'd have nothing left. While I prefer to be hated for what I truly am and truly stand for, sometimes you just might have to accept being hated because of what someone mistakes you for.
Add reclaimationism to recreationism, I guess.

I can totally see why the guys would want to sidestep the issue and avoid tainting themselves (and us by extension) with the "Nazi!" connotation. Unfortunately the average idiot doesn't realize sowilo predates the whole National Socialist thing by nearly 2000 years.

Oh, and don't try and read the whole "Viking Mythology" thread in one go. You will melt your brain. We should turn that thing into a book, it would just take a bit of editing and I'll bet it would be more accurate on a lot of topics (my comments notwithstanding) then a lot of the ones floating about.
