I know there are a few fans on the board - has any of you got the new album yet? I got my hands on it yesterday and I'm really impressed they could do it again. Understandably a lot of it sounds a good deal like their 90's stuff, but they have almost never sounded as chaotic and heavy as on a few certain songs. The guitar playing sounds somewhat more hectic than before, I guess you can hear some Tool influence. I was quite surprised by the lack of guitar solos though - why? Anyway, the album also seems to get better and better toward the end, something Rush has never quite done this well.

I have to give applause to Freeze (part IV of Fear). It sounds like a definite high point of what used to be a trilogy. Without doubt their most progressive song since Moving Pictures, I didn't expect something like this to ever happen again. Really dreamy and bizarre. I have to mention - something Opeth could be proud of! ;)

I’ve heard a few tracks off of it and the thing that surprised me the most is that Lee’s still got that amazing voice.

I advance ordered the album this week, so right after my final exams I'm heading straight to the store to pick it up. I've heard VP in its entirety, it may be Rush's best since Presto. And Freeze is an amazing song, although it screws with eighteen years of rush history :)

I am a huge Rush fan so of course I will buy VT as soon as it comes out, I am really looking foreward to it. As far as the last few cds go, I think I like Couterparts the most ofall the releases since Hold Your Fire, but I like them all in different ways. Driven off TFE is one of my all time Rush favorites.
I doubt I will see them live this tour though, too expensive (I have a family to support and money is a little tight right now). For the amount of money I would spend on 2 tickets, parking, ect, I could buy all the Rush remasters (I am slowly buying the remasters, even though I have all the original cds, so far I have Rush and Fly By Night).
By the way, does anyone else feel that the remasters are very superior in sound quality? Like I said all I have so far is Rush and Fly By Night remasters, and those both sound MUCH better. More clarity, breadth, and more prominant drums. Any other opinions? How are the rest?

Great! I have yet to see anything negative about the album, seems like I'm not alone with my opinion. Of course there are things to grasp still, but repeated listens seem to be the key to certain songs as many times before. Presto is a good comparison in a way, I think they brought some of the melodicism on that one back with VT.
The heaviness means I'm going to surprise some friends with the album. ;)

I haven't heard the originals, but the late 70's/early 80's remasters sound really punchy and clear, in particular the bass sounds just as if it was recorded yesterday.

Thanks. I'm sure I will buy them all anyway, when I get the $. I do have MovPix and Signals on the MFSL Gold disc versions. Amazing sound!
