Sad stuff from Morocco ...

read this after doing a google for metal acts in Morocco...It's incredible how extreme religion is allways an excuse for keeping people down

Suppressing acts of youthful non-conformity is a popular form of political escapism. It provides governments and the public alike with an entertaining diversion from real issues such as unemployment, corruption and administrative incompetence.
In Morocco last March, 14 supposed "devil worshippers" received jail sentences ranging from three months to one year for "undermining the Muslim faith" and "possessing objects contrary to good morals".

Nine of the men, who were aged between 21 and 36, belonged to local heavy metal bands - Nekros, Infected Brain and Reborn - and the rest were fans. Among the objects exhibited in court as being contrary to good morals was a black T-shirt with heavy metal symbols on it. This prompted the judge to comment that "normal people go to concerts in a suit and tie".

Well, maybe there is...What we write some kind of protest mail, post it on all Metal forums we can find and let people sign it and mail it to Moroccan embassy's everywhere ??? just a thought....this stuff makes me so sad...

I was thinking the same thing. It's amazing (not really) that a Judge, a mature and older person cannot see outside of their faith to take a look at what the 'kids' are doing and realize it's not evil. Sadly too many people put blinders on when supporting and defending their faith.

I'll work on something on my weekend..or PM me Gert .now trying to find a contact in Morroco. I have a few in Lebanon and Syria. I'll keep you posted.

I just did some more searching on this topic, and it seems already an older case, from a few years ago, but was brought up again by some people who made a documentary about it. So I don't know if reacting on this at embassy's or so is still up to date. still, it is a very sad example of what extremism is about. Oguz286, welcome on board by the way...I think it's the moderate muslims that can stop the extremism going on now !!! Maybe we'll meet sometime on a concert or so

Religion has caused more death than any form of natural disaster. Its like the pope who said rock music was bad and this is coming from a Nazi who beat up jews and judged them on there race. Swings and roundabouts really. In life everyone will be prosecuted for anything, if its a minority rather than a majority then people will go out of there way to make trouble for the group. Its easier to blame a group of young metalheads who listen to death metal for a killing than a group of middle aged working class men.

It makes me angry too. It also makes me grateful that I was born into a free society -- sitting in my home, watching and listening to Armored Saint with no fear of retribution for such an innocent act. Someday we'll all figure out at the same time that we're not much different from each other and the assholes in charge will be relagated to some backwater corner of history.
