I'd barely even heard of this band until minutes ago. I might have seen their name here and there but ignored it anyway. These guys are typical Norwegian black metallers who get bored of stupid black metal and start playing regular heavy metal - seems to happen a fair bit these days. Anyway I was reading a review in Terrorizer mag and they mentioned they have a great singer and channel Dio on some songs and they got album of the month. So off to myspace we go and yes it's not bad although there's no Dio in the new song Mortify though. The singer has a good voice and the riffs are decent although a bit repetitive but groove well. The other songs from the older albums are not too bad either with some nice spacy solos. This band should appeal to Spiritual Beggars fans. Worth checking out in time.

To your first point that they're "typical Norwegian black metallers"... only one of the guys in Sahg (Tom Cato) is from a Black Metal band (Gorgoroth). Olav is from Manngard (Thrash), Thomas Tofthagen is from Audrey Horne (Hard Rock) and Thomas Lønnheim is from Ralph Myerz and the Jack Herren Band (Rock/Electronica). So calling them typical "Black Metallers" is somewhat off base.

As for Gorgoroth, I'd hardly call them typical. As a matter of fact, they're so atypical of the modern Black Metal scene, that someone recently shot a documentary about them.

To your point that they got "bored" of playing Black Metal... Tom (the only guy actually in a Black Metal band) just released a new Black Metal CD this year, with the front man from Dimmu Borgir, called Ov Hell.

That said, the new Sahg single is pretty cool.

God your such an analyst Sir General! Splitting my post apart in segments telling me where I went wrong. I stand corrected on all counts. One thing I'm right about though is this trend for guys in black metal bands to go sans make up and start playing this dirty heavy rock music ala Motorhead. Seems to be quite the trend over in Norway. One more thing I want to say. Black Metal is not my fave genre of metal. I like to make fun of it sometimes hence my rather flippant first post about the orign of the band which you obviously took some small offense to though I realise you're just correcting me. Normally I don't give too much extra info about a band but since they were from Norway and had 1 bm guy in the ranks I bunched them altogether and took the piss a little with a comment about 'stupid black metal'. Some people like to rip on cheesefest power metal bands which is fair enough. Anyway all in all I was fairly positive about the track and judged it on it's own merits which I tend to do with all music that I sample.

By the way if my memory is correct in the Ov Hell thread we had some slight altercation as well and again it happens. :)

You may be right. However, I can't think of any bands who have done this. I know there are a ton of musicians who involve themselves in many projects, across different genres. But I can't think of any Norwegian Black Metal bands who gave up BM altogether... for other genres. Who are you thinking of specifically?

That was definitely what inspired my response, so to speak. I love many sub-genres of Metal. However, I find BM to be the most intriguing, and often the most artistic musically. It's in a constant state of evolution.

It is fair. But hell, I love cheese.

I just went back and looked. I don't think we got into it. I just wasn't clear on one of your comments. Which is fine. We all have our own styles of writing and expressing our thoughts.

By the way, the reco in this thread is a good one. I'll definitely check out the new disc, based on the strength of this track.

Have you heard of Chrome Division? Shagrath's Motorhead band where he plays guitar? It has a couple other black metal people in the band as well such as Lex Icon, founder of The Kovenant. I'm guessing this is one of the bands he's talking about, though it's just a side project.

You should listen to I. Abbath (Immortal), Armagedda (ex-Immortal), Ice Dale (Enslaved), and TC King (of Gorgoroth/Sahg) share their love of Motorhead with the world.

Both are better examples of what I referred to earlier; musicians getting involved with side projects. Musicians in all genres spread their wings into other genres, both heavier and lighter. But these are merely side projects, and won't be supplanting Dimmu or Immortal and time soon, as the primary project any time soon.
