samples NOT for rock/metal

So, i recorded a couple months ago a CD with only brazilain music, some samba, bossa nova, etc. I screwed up the snare sound on a couple songs, so i turned to the Slate samples we have at the studio and the result was not that good. Since brazilian music has a lighter touch than even pop/rock, most snares sounded like a thunder inside the music. Too much punk, crack, oh well, it just didnt fit. I finally find one that sounded OK, but even on the softest velocities it sounded too heavy and needed MASSIVE eq adjustments to sound just OK.

The thing is...do you know any sample packs that sound good for other styles other than pop/rock/metal ? A buddy has BFD and he swears it is great but never heard it. Any suggestions ?

I don't have any specific ones to point you to, but you could check out http://gearslutz.com. Most of the guys over there don't record metal, so I would imagine you could find a decent selection of samples.

Doesn't Slate samples provide any piccolo snares? I imagine those would work best.
