Sampling outboard gear

I have a bunch of outboard effects where I have some really nice patches, but since I went on to mixing ITB I haven't used any of them and I'm really starting to miss some (especially some I made on the Yamaha Rev7).

I'd like to make impulse files of these (or whatever it's called) and use them with SIR or something like that. How do I go about? I read about using a gun shot sample, but maybe a burst of white noise would be better? And then I just open the resulting file up in SIR?
