Is Slovakia the new Sweden? In terms of the number of bands popping out of the place, the answer would appear to be yes. Sadly, the quality of the material being produced by these bands wouldn't appear to share the Swede's consistency.
Sanatorium are a gore-obsessed brutal death metal band. Their back-to-basics approach is pretty much the antithesis of all that melodic metal that's been doing the rounds of late, but sadly that leaves little room for any interesting ideas in terms of song structures, riff-writing and so on.
The riffs are only memorably because of their simplicity, and the drums lack any real power thanks to the artifical sounding production. The supposedly 'ultra-brutal' gurgling vocals sound like a toad in mating season, and the songs are almost completely interchangeable.
I'll stick with the Swedish for the time being, thanks.
