Sandy West of the Runaways

Just gettin the word out. We just got this email from a friend in touch with Sandy's management:

For those of you who haven't heard - Sandy was diagnosed with lung cancer a year ago and has kept it private but now has been diagnosed , in addition, with a brain tumor.

Her management has setup an email for her to get well wishes at lettersforsandy@yahoo.com

Send her some positive feelings and messages. The Runaways meant everything to her, she has wanted nothing more than a reunion over the last 20 years to no avail.

That's a hard break, isn't it? Makes ya realize how lucky one is to have good health.

My friend visiting from Japan is a good friend of hers and visited her in the hospital last week. She is the one who told them to go public with this sad news to let her fans know how she was doing and to encourage contact from them. I was not allowed to speak of this until I knew it went public. Damn. She helped pave the way for girls in rock and metal. My heart goes out to her.

That just ruined my fucking day!!A couple years ago Sandy played a show here in SF.It was a bizare experience & even more bizare as I interviewed her the next day at this bar.She made me wait an hour while she took a walk to clollect her thoughts.Then durring the interview,she took me into the women's bathroom & palyed me a song she was working on, on her acoustic guitar.
Her manager actually lived in the city at the time.
A few weeks later she was in attendance at the the California Music Awards(CMA's) formerly known as the Bammies.Me & the boys from my show were covering that event.I snuck her backstage & hooked her up with alot of press.Cherie Currie's ex-husband Robert Hayes(star of the famous comedy "Airplane!") was there so she got to hang out with him.
I'll definantly be getting in touch!!
