Sankt Velten is the musical alter ego of Arnd, guitarist and original member of German thrashers Darkness and Tom Becker (Holy Moses). On February 21, 2025, Sankt Velten released their second single, “Dies Irae”, along with an accompanying video.
Stylistically, Sankt Velten sharpen their profile with the new song. While the first album and the first single were still classified as speed and power metal, “Dies Irae” is much heavier and dispenses with the use of choirs. The song is a driving, triplet-like neckbreaker and anticipates that Sankt Velten will take a harder musical path in the new line-up than before.
Check out the lyric video for Sankt Velten’s previous single, “What If”. The song deals with the dystopia in which the world could be a wonderful place, but man as the crown of creation often only brings forth war, destruction, environmental pollution and exploitation. The lyrics are inspired by the quote from Aldous Huxley: “Maybe this world is another planet’s hell.”
The debut album from Sankt Velten, The Discreet Charm Of Evil, was released in 2019 via Scare Records. After a five-year forced break due to the pandemic and various lineup changes, which made new productions, concerts and tours impossible, the band has had a stable lineup since 2024.
Tracklisting:
Dancing In Purgatory
Sex In A Microwave
I Won’t Die Again
Mano Cornuta
Back Into The Fire
The Discreet Charm Of Evil
God’s For Sale
Do Penance
Warporn
Postcards From Hell
