Sarcofagus Ltd
For those around here to whom progressive experimental metal is not only a reason to hit the skip-button, please take heed reading further. You most probably never heard about this Finnish band called Sarcofagus which is no wonder, since they put it to halt in 1982 after releasing only 3 LPs: Cycle of life (1980), Envoy of death (1980), and Moottorilinnut (1982) (engl. Motorbirds which was published under the moniker "Kimmo Kuusniemi Band"). The band's mastermind Kimmo Kuusniemi was way ahead of the time in his music, but while metal wasn't actually the most cherished music style at the time, he turned his creative mind into making films and videos for 25 yrs. But the seed for metal in Finland was sown by Sarcofagus and soon bloomed in bands like Tarot, Zero Nine and Stratovarius to name a few.
But now Kimmo and Sarcofagus are back like The Phoenix. After 25 yrs of silence Sarcofagus have realesed "Core Values" - a CD that can't really be described using comparisons to anything done in metal during these past 25 years. The music is definitely metal, but if you want to categorize it you'd better start a fresh category for it, because this CD just don't fit under any of the usual tags. One might easily make wrong conclusions about grey-bearded "old timers" daydreaming about a come-back, but it'll be better to forget all presumptions with the Sarcofagus Ltd and let their music on "Core Values" -CD do the speaking.

Sarcofagus's plans for 2008 are in making, and some kind of tour is most obviously coming up. If ever possible, I'm sooo there.

Sarcofagus is reputed to be one of the most influential & original Scandinavian Progressive Heavy Metal Bands (formed 1977). They have inspired and influenced numerous new metal bands.
Sarcofagus History in Nutshell:
- Officially the first Finnish Heavy Metal Band
- First Finnish Heavy Metal Band singing in Finnish
- First Scandinavian Heavy Metal Band to have female vocalist (Muska Babitzin)
- First Scandinavian Band (first in the world?) to release a FULL ALBUM length story/live broadcast quality video ever (Kimmo Kuusniemi Band (Sarcofagus) / Moottorilinnut). This was before MTV, rental/sales videos and before people had VHS players. Talking about being ahead of time
- Released 1 Single and 3 Albums (2 albums re released in Italy 1996 by Mellotron, Cycle of Life released in Finland 2006).
- 4th album coming out soon after 25 years with original lineup (except for vocals); Kimmo Kuusniemi (guitars/drums), Esa Kotilainen (keyboards), Juha Kiminki (Bass) and Tanja Karttunen (Vocals).
- Kimmo Kuusniemi was the 1st spoke person for Finnish Heavy Metal. He also started the Finnish Heavy Metal Association to bring together all the metal fans in the age before communication revolution.
- Kimmo Kuusniemi brought metal to radio, TV and papers where he was used as the expert to explain the metal philosophy to reporters.
- In 2004 Kimmo Kuusniemi released a downloadable free web version of 1981 Moottorilinnut (Motorbirds) album with original alternative cover.
The 25 years of waiting is over.

We set to make an unique fresh album. I think we have succeeded in that; whether you like it or not, its something you havent heard before! The Core Values album has all the attributes from old Sarcofagus: its Progressive, Metal & Experimental. We wanted to go the indie way to make the album without any creative limitations and thats what we have done!
The Indie status is also very important for us as the album lyrics are about our society, globalisation and environmental issues.
