searching for bands similar to down

You may like Crowbar, they're from the same area and play sludgy, slow heavy music (the older stuff had some fast moments). The album Equilibrium is a pretty good start.

Not quite exact but: Corrosion of Conformity, Orange Goblin, Goatsnake. Check out Unearthly Trance too. More doomish, but quite good.

"Mother, Teacher, Destroyer" from Hidden Hand is a great album. I suggest this one first.

Yeah, as Egan has mentioned those three bands share some members. You're bound to like most of them if you like Down. My band is currently heading in this direction musically. Finding a singer for this type of stuff is tough.

Yeah, definitely COC from "Deliverance" on (though "Blind" being my fav), Crowbar... maybe adding Fu Manchu, some Monster Magnet, Eyehategod... and definitely Trouble!

off the wall... but you may enjoy Dimebag's side-project Rebel Meets Rebel. It has a sludgy / metal / country feel to it. "Cowboys do more dope than rock and rollers"

Pentagram
Kingdom Of Sorrow (also w/ Windstein)
St. Vitus (also w/ Wino)
The Obsessed (also w/ Wino)
High On Fire

Not exactly like Down, but I reccoment Yob and Middian...practically the same band, both great.

Definitely high on fire

But dont forget those SLEEP classics. Not quite as swampy as Down but great stoner rock fo sho.

Crowbar takes the cake for me though. ODD FELLOWS REST. Just get it and feel the elephant standing on your chest.

Check out Black Label Society's first album Sonic Brew. Great sludgy, doomy, southern atmosphere on there. Somewhat similar to Down and way different to the rest of the Black Label catalogue :)

Some great recommendations in this thread! :headbang::kickass:

Sleep "Dopesmoker" and "Holy Mountain" rule! "Sometimes the riff is just so fucking good, that you want to hear it for an hour."

If anyone is interested in a cool documentary about the stoner/doom scene, check out "Such Hawks, Such Hounds." Really cool flick.
