SEPULTURA

I have been listening to Arise the last few days. It is a great album.

Yea 'Arise' is my favorite Sepultura album. They were the shit in those day's. I still have the 'Barcelona under siege' video they released around that period. I should get the DVD of their live performances.

I still think its sad they messed up music and relationship wise. They could have been so much bigger.

But Bryant, their popularity sky rocketed with Roots.

Yes, it is sad they broke up and Max Cavalera doesnt even want to talk much about his experiences with Sepultura anymore.

I still have to get that DVD, "Arise" is also my favorite Sepultura record and all the live songs I've heard from this era sounded awesome.

I actually threw on "Beneath The Remains" the other day. "Schizophrenia" stands as my favorite, but everything up to "Arise" is untouchable Thrash.

Although, if "Schizo" had "Beneaths" production... holy crap....

Max leaving the band might have been for the best. Roots seemed like Sepultura was headed more into a nu-metal fashion. Even if you don't account Jonathan Davis being on the album, it was a very dumbed down Sepultura.

I disagree. Roots is a great album. Arise is basically generic thrash. Reasonably well done and well produced, but generic as hell.

It's a shame Max left, because I think they were really finding their sound at that time. Now we have two sub-standard bands instead. I can't believe the other three guys are still calling themselves Sepultura.

What exactly do you mean by "rhythmic masterpiece"? I think Arise is a good album, but it's certainly no masterpiece.

Yes Roots is similar in style to Soulfly, Max obviously wanted to prove that he could go and do it without the other guys and he succeeded to a point, Soulfly have had a bunch more success than post Max Sepultura, but they aren't as good.

I heard they were laying the Sepultura name to rest after their next tour. This may have changed though.
Good idea though. No Cavaleras left, and it was basically their (and, well, I suppose Paulo's too) band.

In Revolver magazine, there is an article with a possible reunion with Max coming back to do vocals..Hopefully it will happen. Because his vocals are amazing.

I've also read about Max and Igors rennewed friendship and desire to perform again. Max has also stated he is a bigger metal head then ever before and is loving all his old Hellhammer etc records.

Arise was Sepulturas last decent release IMO, they always were heavily influenced by what was happening around them in the metal world. Morbid Visions, Schizophrenia and Beneath the Remains are their most creative metal excursions.

Jamming to the under seige DVD right now. It used to never leave my VCR back when it came out. I fucking miss the thrash glory days. When Metallica, Megadeth, Sepultura, Overkill, Slayer, Kreator (which I think still kicks ass) and many more ruled the world.

I remember when I first heard Arise and I was like 'Holy Fuck!'.

At that point the only Sepultura I had heard was Roots and I couldn't believe it was the same band.

I now have all the Sepultura records up to and including Roots. Beneath The Remains or Arise are my favourites and get regular plays on my ipod.

The live record Under A Pale Grey Sky was also awesome evern though it was not approved by the band. Some of the old school tracks like Necromancer and Troops Of Doom sound sicker than ever on this record.
