Any thoughts on these guys? I'm a little interested in them. Here's what I found out about them.

Serpens Aeon was created in late 1997 by Luis Martinez and Erick Diaz after their departure from legendary Death Metal Cult The Chasm. At the end of 1999 the band recorded their demo debut "Raising the fire Serpent" which was released in a limited quantity among the Death Metal circle.

In the beginning of the year 2000 the addition of Matt Cason as their full time drummer added more strength to the already powerful sound the band is known for. The preparation for "Dawn of Kouatl" began.

Changes in the line-up happened and the Circle of Serpens decided to stay as a trio with Matt on Drums, Erick on Guitars, and Luis on Bass and Vox. No longer after this decision was taken the band was ready to record "Dawn of Kouatl" in February 2003.

Over the last few years the band has been participating in several metal festivals and sharing stages with national and international acts like Incantation, Disgorge, Arch Enemy, Nevermore, Exhumed, Agalloch to mention a few. Those who have heard the material have had very positive reactions, and the band has already earned a great reputation for their live attacks. The sound that Serpens Aeon has created could be described as the epitome of Death Metal Cult

Their mp3's sound like early Sepultura, only a little more evil.

Any other thoughts on this band? Dark Symphonies has three CD's I'm interested in right now, and this is one of them....the other two being Leviathan and Scald (Russian).

I know I need more The Chasm as well, because I tried out Deathcult again today and I seriously can't stomach it. I'm going to sell that CD at some point. Anyway, their other stuff is certainly worth thinking about I'm sure. Dreamlord - remind me which The Chasm CD is their best?

henchman my ass.

I like Conjuration of the SPectral Empire and Procession to the Infraworld. I'm sure Josh will have some suggestions as well.

right, so has anyone heard Serpens Aeon since this thread was started? I'm probably going to buy the album soon.

BTW, anyone familiar with the Mexican death metal band Cenotaph?

I think you would like Serpens Aeon. Great death metal that knows when to just break down and groove. Obviously shares some similarities with The Chasm as well as all the other death metal bands with melody we've come to know and love. Recommended.

cool. yeah, The Chasm connection has me interested with them being one of the forerunners in death metal today.
