City beneath the surface
I've been a SF fan for quite sometime now. Their new one, Retribution, came out this past Tuesday. I picked it up, along with the new Megadeth. I have to say that SF has put out a stellar metal album. For those of you that had a problem with the "commercial" sound of Threads, you'll be surprised to hear this one! I wasn't aware that the band broke away from Atlantic to form their own label, Everblack Industries. I'm assuming this gave them more freedom to get back to their own sound. With that said, they've put out an "ass kicker"! :kickass:

Fairly solid release. Picked it up at the fest from the Laser's Edge table. Was suprised to see it there especially at the Laser's Edge table. I wonder if someone at LE is a fan.

surprisingly enough it's pretty awesome. i downloaded it a month ago and have been jamming it. was STOKED to pick up the CD version with the Ozzy, Nuclear Assault and Cro-Mags covers on it. overall great disc!

They were on Atlantic? Wow. They actually had their own label way back when they started out called Lifeforce.

i think the guitarists label was called Lifeless Records. LIFEFORCE RECORDS are based in Germany with offices in the US.

Yes, one record on a major label and gone. Brian (vocalist) has an interesting interview out now on BM about life on a major label, quite an interesting read.

I never thought they should have made the move. Seemed like they were doing well on CM and doing it themselves for the most part.

New album smokes though. i was shocked as i had given up on them a few albums back.

Yeah they were carrying my new SOLITUDE and DOMINANCE reissues and i believe sold some to thrash fans. thrash will always be alive and well in a group of metal heads attending any show i think.

It's certainly not terrible, and not at all metalcore like they get lumped into. I still don't completely care for it, as it's still a bit too groove-y for my tastes. However their guitarists are fantastic, and there is still some good leads all over the place in that song. Solid stuff, but it doesn't demand that I buy it or really listen to it with any regularity.

Wow , I picked this up yesterday and it is awesome, just what I have been looking for as of late. Which other disc from them should I check out? Anything else in this vien you could recommend?

Thanks,
Dee

The Art of Balance and The War Within. There's absolutely nothing wrong with Threads of Life either, that is if you like "catchy" hooks. Quite frankly, I prefer Threads over any of them, but that's just me.

I've liked a few songs throughout their career but never had 1 of their cds fully blow me away. This new cd blew me away and I love every moment of every song, this is their masterpiece in my opinion and I think they will only grow from this release.

Out of their prior releases - I prefer War Within then Threads. Threads is more melodic as edgeofthorns said.

I just like the fact that each release has been different enough from the rest. As a band I like their variety, the angst, solid guitar work, and very tight drumming by Bittner.
