Lee:) How do you know I post something?:) That's pretty funny coz it takes just one reload to see your answer:) Are you always in here or what kind of spell do you use??:) And did you get my message from my dutch e-box?:) With all the info about our performance?:)
Cheers!
P.S.
RELOAD!

hmm do you happen to be looking at Emusic.com?
that's a matter of a deal with Earache itself; a few labels (actually quite a few) signed a deal with emusic to make their catalogs available on emusic.com
however, you guys are supposed to get money out of it, actually, in that supposedly the downloads from us paying users send a bit of money to you and the label.
Of course, there's the free deal to get 50 mp3s on a trial basis, but still.

I personally thought it was a good idea because it lets a lot of hard to find stuff be officially released again, and in a uniform format so that all the tracks are at the right volume.

Also, I know I tend to go out and buy a lot of albums I download from there (I've gotten at least 10 of them that I can think of offhand, and that's just a fund limit type thing)

Hearse you are right!! But not for every market... if you can afford buying a CD that doesn't necessarily mean everyone can buy it:(

I think it's bad when albums can be gotten online before they are released, and I strongly advocate against d/ling entire albums (unless there are some other circumstances; like being out of print). But mp3s as a whole will only spread music, and the good music (and even some of the bad ;)) will lead to more purchases. Considering the quality of work, Sonm, I'd expect the mp3s spreading would only liken the chance of people buying the album. Not all cases, but many.

Yep! That's a good point, but have you heard of what's going on with the whole music industry? Let me quote Obituary - Slowly we rot... Coz once somebody has an mp3 of any band he likes, next day you have to multiply that by 10 to get the amount of people having it. And so on. Coz a chance for buying an album after you have it in mp3s is about 30%... That's my own statistics though. I think this "mp3ination" does good things too but evil ones still prevail. :(

I think the crux here is the fact MP3s are a useful tool for promoting a band and making people directly aware of what a band sounds like.

After downloading one or two tracks, the listener should know by then whether to make a purchase or not. If you have the entire album, however, what's the point in actually buying the real thing?

Exactly! That was my point. So we finally have a deal:) Lee are you still going to travel to the Netherlands? And did you get my e-mail?
Cheers!

if it wasnt for mp3s i wouldnt have heard of Forest Stream. now i got a job (starting on tuesday) i will have the money to buy your CD.

I think mp3s are a great way to promote bands. I think if you download a whole album and like it you should buy it. I buy albums for the art/lyrics/etc.. as much as the music. I want the whole package. just having the music on a blank CD doesnt feel right. I do have a lot of burnt CDs but thats due to being broke. I buy as much music as i can but when your living off 300 bucks a month and 250 of that goes to rent you cant buy much music.

now go check out Funeral Fog on mp3.com and download there mp3s. (just had there CD release party at my place last night) They are #24 in the black metal charts right now. grim old school black metal.

Lee what is "nad no"? Nad = no appreciable disease as far as I know...

Necromancer... Yes, but again that's right for a formed market. Do you know that in Russia you can buy the WHOLE BAND on one CD... It will contain all their albums, lyrics and pictures... And albums are mp3encoded of course. How do you think those morons got 'em? They even do not need to buy a brand new CD for that... click download and then burn 1000 copies! That suck big time... shall we think about the way to protect it? In fact that is impossible...

of course it is nice to buy CDs and all, but what to do when it`s kinda complicated to find anything worth listening in the stores? here, with the population of one and a half million the majority is obviously "mainstream" fans....so if you want to have get something like Forest Stream - impossible (unless you order it and wait for a month before they get it). stuff like Katatonia, My Dying Bride, Morbid Angel, Emperor - impossible (only by order, not to mention that it`s going to cost you extra...) so, dloading mp3 from the web, here at least, is the only way to get some music...however, i still believe that buying CDs is a better option, for, first of all, the quality of mp3 and CD is just uncomperable, besides it`s always nice to see the artwork and all......well, if you CAN get it, in this case...heh :bah:
