Hey everyone,

I decided to do some more recording today.

I've been experimenting with the E906 some more and got what I think is a really killer tone. Here's what I used:

Ibanez RG421
ENGL E530
VHT 2/90/2
Avatar 412, speaker is a WGS British Lead 80

Here's the clip with just SM57: http://www.soundclick.com/bands/page_songInfo.cfm?bandID=442291&songID=6653913

Here's the clip with just E906: http://www.soundclick.com/bands/page_songInfo.cfm?bandID=442291&songID=6653904

Here's a blended clip: http://www.soundclick.com/bands/page_songInfo.cfm?bandID=442291&songID=6653886

Working on a track with vocals now... :evil

These links are pictures of the mic placement I used for all three clips. I recorded the blend first, and then just muted the mic I didn't want on.

Thanks for checking it out!

Cool idea for a shootout, thanks dude! To be perfectly honest, though, I'm not really fond of any of the clips; I find the overall guitar tone to be a bit too nasally and totally lacking in any low end, so that's tweaking that IMO needs to be done on the e530 / VHT (though I doubt you can do much there). I honestly can't hear much of a difference between the two mics individually, though if I had to choose I'd say I prefer the 906 cuz it's a bit less pronounced in those nasally frequencies. The blended is by far my favorite, though I think a big part of that is that it's simply louder. If you could record the same clips perhaps with a different guitar tone (and with not as much of a drum intro to sit through each time ;) ), that'd be killer!

I think it's more the speaker then the power/pre.

You guys are both close. The CL80 doesn't record easily. It doesn't help that I'm using a basswood Ibanez with stock V7/V8 pickups... With my other guitar ( currently out of commission... ) it would sound quite a bit better.

Needless to say I'm gassing for a good cab with V30s at the moment...

Glad you enjoyed it!

I saw your settings on HCAF and looks like you're running the bass pretty low (11 o clock) unless it gets mushy or something at any higher settings.

I always mic the cab with a 57 and the e906 (or e609, depending...) at once. I don't think I've ever separated them, besides soloing them out in mixing to mess with the EQ's and such.
