Siena Root A New Day Dawning
Rage of Achilles 2004
By Jason Jordan
Swedish, retro-rockers Spiritual Beggars not enough for ya? Fellow Swedes Siena Root may very well satiate your appetite. The presentation of A New Day Dawning is a little bland, but the music atones for the aforementioned fault.
Coming Home begins with a casual, drum introduction that would comfortably fit on any Led Zeppelin record. The former picks up speed and the song bursts into an instrumental interlude, which is overtly rambunctious. But, the music-makers frequently drop out of the mix in order to accentuate the climactic vocalizations of Riffer and West. The organs inclusion is a deftly brilliant addition to the overall sound of Siena Root. Just Another Day is a traditional, psychedelic romp and its quicker-paced parts are infectious. Shine is a mediocre outing; its also much shorter than the other tracks. Fever traipses onto the stage with help from the drums: Pink Floyd-esque leads punctuate the empty airspace. An excellent chill track. Above the Trees is optimistic and matches What Can I Do in the length department. Little Man and Roots are relatively safe endeavors. Trippin is all right, Until Time Leaves Us Again commences very slowly, but showcases some cool drumfills close to the latters expiration. The organ is brilliant again. Words is succinct, though Rasayana and Into the Woods taste the other end of the spectrum.
Siena Root took me aback with their capabilities. A New Day Dawning is worthwhile and substantial unfortunately, it wanders a bit too much. Nevertheless, dont let it deter you from purchasing if your retro needs havent been met for quite some time.
