single coil question

ok, i'm kinda new to single coils cause all of my guitars have 2 humbuckers. my question is i'm gonna get a strat with a floyd rose an 1 hum and 2 singles and i need the hum to get some insane metal tones but i need the singles to get nice funky tones (i need funky tones cause i'm in a funk metal band). i would like to get some emgs but i have never heard their singles before so please could you guys help me?

Duncan HotRails are pretty good...Not über crunchy, but they give you MUCH better tone than any Fender stock singles. Also, DiMarzio YJMs are awesome (Cuz they're Malmsteen's!). Fender stock pickups truly suck, some people like them (Although I don't know why), but most people I know who play Fenders hate their stock pickups. So if you want good single coils, I would recommend Seymour Duncan or DiMarzio...You can check out EMGs, but they're going to be a bit more expensive, I believe.

if you want funk tone I'd stay FAR away from EMGs. They are way more standard metal tone. For a good bluesy/funk style tone I personally think Tex-Mex or Texas Specials are fantastic. They have that really straty sound only with a warmer feel so when you solo it sounds yummy and smooth rather than twangy and harsh. I agree that Seymour Duncan hot rails are insanly good pickups, but would probably be too warm and hot for a funk sound. I'm not sure if they make Seymour Duncan Jazz pickups in single form, but the hums are fantastic. Generally Seymour Duncan and Dimarzio are the best families to shop in, but for a funky tone, you somtimes want to venture into the fender realm.

Since I don't know EXACTLY what kind of sound you are looking for, since I'm not really a SC kind of guy...I'm just going to recommend that you go check out some Duncan singles here:
http://www.seymourduncan.com/website/SDToneWizard/strat.htm
And go to http://www.dimarzio.com for DiMarzio clips

Of the Duncan singles, I recommend Live Wire Classics or Hot Live wires, possibly a JB Jr. or Little Screamin' Demon. And for DiMarzio, YJMs are the best I can think of off the top of my head...And they would certainly do you justice. :)

I think I'd listen to SyXified's recommendations here. Other posts are pointing you toward hotter pickups - you don't want heat for the funk. Fender makes good stuff - I would even wait to listen to the pickups on the guitar before buying something new. They may be just great for a funk sound. You don't mention what Strat model you're buying - it may have great pickups already in it.

You can save some money; but, if you're still looking for something metal in the neck position for shredder solos, you can look at the posts above and use the middle SC for the funk tones.

Well he said Funk METAL...So I assumed he meant he wanted something at least a little hot, but not so hot they distort on clean...And I recommended the best for that. All the ones I recommended aren't actually all that hot, unless you compared them to Strat singles.
