Ozzy Osbourne (pictured) was honored with the Global Icon Award at the the 2014 MTV EMA (MTV Europe Music Awards) on Sunday, November 9 at the SSE Hydro arena in Glasgow, Scotland. The BLACK SABBATH frontman collected the award from former GUNS N’ ROSES guitarist Slash, who later performed Ozzy's 1980 hit "Crazy Train" with MYLES KENNEDY & THE CONSPIRATORS and BIFFY CLYRO's Simon Neil. Check out video footage of the performance at MTV.co.uk. "For four decades the Prince Of Darkness has rocked anyone who dared to listen," Slash said. "This is a guy who does not know how to do ordinary. He scares the hell out of most people and all bats. But to me is a gentle man and a gentleman." He added in a pre-show interview: "Aside from being one of the mavericks of heavy metal, [Ozzy is] also one of the greatest entertainers, performers I've ever seen. He has amazing control over his audience. It's actually stunning to be on the side of the stage and actually watch the command over his audience. It's pretty intense." Ozzy thanked and blessed his fans for coming before adding "I don't know where they got this icon shit from". Osbourne is the fifth-ever recipient of the Global Icon Award, following BON JOVI in 2010, QUEEN in 2011, Whitney Houston in 2012 and Eminem in 2013. Ozzy's solo career retrospective, "Memoirs Of A Madman", was released on October 7. Even though he will turn 66 this December, Ozzy told The Pulse Of Radio a while back that he has no intention of calling it quits. "I don't wanna stop, you know," he said. "It's been the biggest love affair of my life." He continued: "When you reach a certain age in rock 'n' roll, people think, 'Well, this has got to be his last tour,' or 'This has got to be his last tour,' or 'You've got to come next Tuesday 'cause he ain't gonna do it after that.' "You'll know when I've come off the road permanently. I mean, you'll know!" The "Memoirs Of A Madman" CD collects 17 of Ozzy's biggest solo hits and fan favorites, will be available as a single CD, two-LP set and two-LP picture disc set. The "Memoirs" two-disc DVD set includes classic music videos, unreleased and out-of-print live performances, and interviews from his solo career.
