Gibson TV has released the video below, along with the following introduction…
Ever wondered what it’s like to own one of the very first Gibson Les Paul sunbursts ever made? Well, Slash can actually tell you! In this clip from The Collection, Slash tells the incredible story behind his 1958 Les Paul which is one of only two known to be completed first in sunburst finish.
Watch as he tells Mark Agnesi how he found this beautiful guitar through word of mouth, adding it to his already impressive collection of Gibson Les Paul guitars as soon as he heard it was available. Learn how this particular model has a two-piece top (its sibling is a three-piece), original small frets with visible nibs and a mysterious sticker mark that Slash chose to leave intact for its cool factor. “I had to just leave it… the vibe is too good.” So good in fact, that the team at Gibson even replicated the sticker residue on the Slash 1958 Aged Reissue “First Burst” signature model. Sometimes known as the Slash Gibson Les Paul “First Standard” ’58.
Listen as Slash explains how he loves the guitar’s tone and the feel of the neck which he says could be mistaken for a ’59. It’s a guitar that sounds amazing and is a piece of music history. “For a Les Paul guy like me, it’s a must-have,” says Slash.
Watch this rare look into the story of one of the first sunburst Les Paul guitars ever made, dubbed the “First Burst” Les Paul, straight from the man who made the Les Paul part of his legend.
Guns N’ Roses perform next on Tuesday, May 27 at Etihad Arena in Abu Dhabi, AE. Their complete tour schedule can be found here.
