Can someone help me with programming hi-hats that don't sound like machine guns? No matter how I change the velocity of hits I can't get it to sound human.

i think apart from just changing velocity you should think about different positions of a hi-hat, as a drummer rarely plays just open hi-hat all the time, so mix it up a bit

and with velocities dont just vary them a little bit, make accents, helps it sounds more musical

I dont have slate drums and am not too familiar with drum programming to be honest - but when I have programmed drums I have had a drummer play the cymbals (including hats) and record them - to make for a less machinated recording sound.

I'd try the groove monkee stuff. Got Slate mapping and a variety of styles to choose from.

I usually program all kick, snare and toms by hand and just copy paste the appropriate cymbal performance from the G.M. pack.

OOT

i'd go for the velocity changes and off timing too, i have ezplayer to help me fill the grooves and lots of the patterns already come that way, off time and big velocity difference
