BLINK-182 Drummer Turns Down SLAYER Gig! - Dec. 16, 2002

BLINK-182 drummer Travis Barker has turned down an opportunity to join SLAYER as a replacement for Dave Lombardo, the skinsman revealed to Sweden's Close-Up magazine.

"I've never revealed this before, but a few months ago, I was offered the position as the replacement for Dave Lombardo in SLAYER," he told the magazine. "It would have been fun – they're my childhood idols, but I don't know… I'm happy with what I've got going right now."

Barker, whose lengthy resume includes stints in TRANSPLANTS and BOX CAR RACER, is believed to have been approached about the SLAYER gig before the band and Lombardo reached an agreement for Dave to stick around long enough to record the group's next CD, tentatively due in early 2004.

In an interview with MTV conducted in October, Barker expressed his appreciation for extreme metal music, stating that "I grew up on WHODINI and RUN-D.M.C. and SLAYER and KING DIAMOND and THE CLASH. We've always loved all these types of music." An article published in Teen Music earlier this year listed SLAYER's "Reign In Blood" as one of Barker's top two CDs of all time, an honor it shared with THE POLICE's "Live".

I dont wish to sound like an ass, as Blink are good at what they do, but if he was ever seriously considered for that drumming role in Slayer ill eat my own nuts!
If a guy like Raymond from Fear Factory couldnt do it, theres no way this guy could... :err:

At the risk of sounding like an iconoclast, the hardest part about drumming for Slayer would be the speed. Paul Bostaph wasn't half the drummer Lombardo is, and he did ok. Barker's punk background would probably serve him well in Slayer, actually.

 Thats just madness! Paul was/is great! :D

(Though I do think that Raymond from FF would have been a great choice had Dave not come back)

Could your verbosity be any greater you smart ass wanker?

;)

Gene did join them after Paul left for a little while if I recall correctly?

That is pretty freaky.

I might get out my old Blink albums and see if he is a good drummer or not.

Yes I have Blink albums...

I got it for Xmas a few years ago...

Stupid mother...

Blink is alright, they write some catchy songs and have a good sense of humour, you cant fault them for that :D

Yeah they're ok - they can have a laugh at least....don't take themselves too seriously.

Gene Hoglan is god.
