Brilliant band! While 'Grand Opening and Closing' was a great album, I can't say it compares to the masterpeice that 'Of Natural History' is. Truely an origonal band. What are your opinions on them?

Also of related bands (Tin Hat Trio, Book of Knots, Thinking Plague, etc.).

I saw them live months ago. They were... interesting... but... yeah.

Yeah, they aren't for everyone. It took me a while to get used to them. I can't say I was all that impressed upon first listen.

I've heard their live shows are pretty bizarre. Very theatrical. I was going to see them just last week, but it was sold out by the time I got around to getting tickets.

Yes they were quite theatrical. They all wore makeup and dresses. And the bassist had this humongous bass like instrument that layed flat like a pedal steel guitar that produced these incredibly deep bass notes. Yeah it was a pretty good show visually. Some of the music was pretty interesting but nothing that really impressed me that much. I saw them with Secret Chiefs 3 who were very good. I spoke with Trey for 5-10 minutes before the show. He liked my Slayer shirt and we talked about Stravinsky.

heh sounds about right. Anyways, you might try checking out some of their side projects if they are too off the wall for you. With the exception of Thinking Plague, their other bands are a lot milder. At least the one's I've checked out.

I'd love to Secret Chiefs 3 live. Very interesting sound. I've been meaning to pick Book of Horizons for a while now.

I saw them live last week at the Knitting Factory and it was amazing. They played 3 new songs which were fricken sweet. I love SGM. Faun Fables and Tin Hat Trio are also really solid groups. the precursor to Sleepytime, Idiot Flesh, is kind of hit or miss with some tracks.

^Yeah! You got to see them? Like Resist, tickets were gone by the time I got my fatass up. I really wanted to go to it too... I think they are a great band, though they were hard to get into at first :erk:

Nice, I wanted to go to that show, but thursday wasn't a good night for me as I had other plans I couldn't duck out of. How were the acoustics in the Knitting Factory? I recently saw Behold... the Arctopus there and (since they are quite an abrasive band) the clarity was slightly below par. Which room was it in?

Yeah Tin Hat Trio is pretty awesome. I haven't heard all that much from Faun Fables. I'm not all that crazy about Idiot Flesh but they do have some good songs here and there. What do you think about Thinking Plague?

haven't listened to Thinking Plague. The acoustics in the Knitting Factory (the main stage) were pretty good. The bass was REALLY loud though. Otherwise I thought the sound was pretty good.

I wanted to go to that Behold the Arctopus show...had to work though. I was pissed.

the show wasn't sold out though. I bought my tickets a few hours before the doors opened

I found a radio interview with the violinist/female singer of Sleepytime, it was very interesting. I really wish that any of the groups mentioned in this thread would come near where I live:(

Ah ok, Behold... played in the alterknit lounge which is pretty small. Haven't seen any bands on the main stage.
