Former NIGHTWISH singer Tarja Turunen played two shows at this year's edition of the Wacken Open Air festival in Wacken, Germany — one on the Black Stage at the main event, and the other one as a special and intimate acoustic set inside "Wacken Metal Church." In addition to stripped down versions of her original songs, Tarja's acoustic set included surprise cover versions of SLIPKNOT's "Vermilion, Pt. 2" and RAMMSTEIN's "Ohne Dich". Professionally filmed video footage of both covers can be seen below. In a 2012 interview with PlanetMosh, Turunen stated about her passion for performing reworked versions of other artists' songs: "I am just having a great time with my fans playing covers in the shows. They give totally different mood to the setlist and I love doing them." Tarja's new heavy rock album, "The Shadow Self", was released on August 5 via earMUSIC.
