SLIPKNOT and STONE SOUR singer Corey Taylor has slammed the Grammy Awards, suggesting that the annual event is pretty much just a televised concert with some meaningless trophies handed out between sets.Although SLIPKNOT has been nominated for seven Grammy Awards, it has won only one picking up the "Best Metal Performance" gong in 2006 with the single "Before I Forget".To date, STONE SOUR has received three Grammy Award nominations for "Best Metal Performance" for the singles "Get Inside", "Inhale" and "30/30-150".During an appearance on the Nerdist podcast, Taylor took issue with the with the Grammys and their voting process, saying: "Now the 'Best Metal Performance' looks just like they threw fucking darts
'Cause I'm looking at it, going, 'Really?'"He continued: "I mean, I was stoked that HALESTORM won, because I'm really good friends with those guys and I know what kind of work they've put into it. I mean, they came from fucking nothing, and I was really stoked for them. But yeah, at this point, there's two schools of thought. It's, like, well, we're just gonna try and vote for the most obscure Norwegian black metal fucking band
with illegible font. We're gonna give it to you tonight. Or it's, like, well, this is everything that has been played on the radio for the last five minutes. It's, like, 'We're gonna fucking celebrate you. Blah blah blah.'"Taylor added: "Old people vote [on those awards]. I'm convinced that's the reason we won, is because an old person went, 'SLIPKNOT! I read a magazine article about them. They've been around. Here you go. Take it. The kids are gonna be real happy.' 'Cause you look at it, and you're, like, fuckin' JUDAS PRIEST won one for a live version of a song they released 40 years ago, and the live version was released 20 years before that. And they only re-released it because of a box set. And they gave it to them? I'm, like, 'Fucking what?' "It doesn't mean anything. I mean, that's like trying to hit a fucking needle with another needle. You have one metal category, you have one basic rock category, and you've got bands like FUN winning it. And I'm, like, 'Really? Show me on the doll where FUN is a rock band.'"In an effort to continuously evolve its Grammy Awards process, The Recording Academy announced in April 2011 that it had restructured the Grammy categories across all genres and fields, bringing the total number of categories to be recognized at the 54th Grammy Awards in 2012 to 78 from 109. As a result, instead of separate "Best Metal" and "Best Hard Rock" performance prizes, there is now a single "Best Metal Performance" award.
