yeah, just record everything quiet as fuck and normalise it, who gives a f**k about sily things like signal to noise ratio? lol!
Yeah I just didn't get it. Funny thing is that dude has been doing it for a while and you would think he would know what the fuck that guy was asking about.

by the way, if any SM7 users are interested i've found a cheap potential problem solver regarding the whole "my preamp doesnt have enough gain" scenario: its a thing called the rode power plug, and basically its a in line mic preamp that runs off phantom power. gives around 20db gain apparently, assuming it isnt too noisy this could be a good buy for those without high gain pre's, costs $60 or so.
