Snare mic.. Good Ol' SM57 or BETA 57A

I've gotten the opportunity to borrow a BETA 57a mic, and I'd like to try it on the snare.


In your guys' experience its the beta better than the sm57 or not as good for snare? I know the super cardioid polar pattern helps to mute out the high hat a bit better with the beta, but tone wise, what do you dudes think?

I really like the Beta 57 on snare drums. Someone here recommended I used it on snare and I'm glad I did.

It has a bit less grunt than I standard 57. A bit brighter and has a more gradual roll off in the lows that starts higher than the standard 57. I like it for pop and rock stuff, not used it in a metal context though.

The normal 57 sounds more full, the Beta 57 sounds a little cleaner and has better bleed rejection.
