Sneapesque...

That is some tight low end. Is that Drop C or Drop B? Anywho, very clear production all around. I dig the guys vocals about 50/50. Anywho, I guess I need to practice my skills a bit more. Wonderfulrisical.

Sounds great! Nice compression here. The song is not entirely to my liking but, it's done well. Having said that, my only suggestions would be to turn up the kick. It's a tad too quiet and makes the low end lack the punch it needs. I also think the vox are a little loud, but that could just be because I don't like them. But when he "belts out" in higher key it's hard on the ears (as far as amplitude is concerned). Could just be me though. Great work regardless. But definitely crank that kick up and it would sound more epic. My .02.

Why, Thx guys!!
On a personal note.. I would've wanted the drums louder and beefier myself, but that call was totally up to the band. I did a demo with them before this one, and that drumsound on that one totally kicked some serious ass. About the biggest drumsound I had ever done... but they really wanted it more natural this time, and the reference cds they brought in had these kind of balances.. that is a bit more natural laid back drums, big ol' guitar/bass mess and vocals totally upfront.

Well then, you did your part accurately. Good job, it sounds great.

***I still think it would sound cooler it you fatten it up***

You need to slap these guys silly, and show em the way of pounding rythymical mayhem. :Spin:

Well.. don't know about accurate, but when pushed for time and you need good performances from the people involved it's usually not productive to get into deeper discussions about how they should sound... just go with the flow a bit more than usual maybe :Spin:

After all.. it's more about presenting the basic material than chasing that killer production... if it turns out good.. then great I guess.

marty.. my man, of course! Here goes...

Drums:

Mapex Orion Custom Classic
- Toms are 12, 14, 16 with ATTACK heads
- Snare is a Mapex brass thing.. don't remember the head
- Kick is 20" with Evans EQ3 beater head
- Hihat is a Zildjan.. something
- Crashes = two Zildjan Z series (the left in image broken!)
- Ride is Zildjan.. something
- China i think was a Paiste (broken!)

The band shot a photo of it.. Drums

Kick = AudioTechnica AE-3000 (condenser/dynamic double mic)
- I usually mic the kick with additional mics farther away to capture the low end beef, but this kick didn't have the low end that was required so I just went for a nice skintone/click with one (two mics) inside the kick and triggered the low end I needed later on.

Snare = AudioTechnica AE-2500
- GREAT snare mic! There is a blend with triggered samples but it's only like 20-30% in the mix.. just to broaden the spectrum of the acoustic snare a bit. I put it through an AMEK System 9098 Pre/Eq

Toms = 2 Shure SM57, 1 Sennheiser MD421
- Nothing fancy.. all acoustic in the mix

Hihat = Shure SM81

Ride = Calrec,, which I can never remember the model of...

OH = 2 BeyerDynamic.. which I don't remember.. a bit older large condenser.
- No real OH miking.. just cymbal micing really. Believe they're through a Vintech Dual97 preamp. Never really mic like this.. but I felt like experimenting!! :hotjump:

Bass:

Instrument: Ibanez 5-string thingy that has such a loooooovely LowEnd!

Amp: Ampeg SVT-III head through an older JCM800 Bass cab 2x15".

Mics: Shure SM7 for LowEnd and Röde NT3 for clarity and string.

Drums & Bass are played live to click track. Everything except the OH mics and Snare mic goes through the onboard preamps which is an Otari SR54 console early 90s model.

Rhythm/Clean Guitar:

Instrument: LTD Baritone with EMG pickups

Amp: Mesa Dual Rectifier (3Ch)

Mics: 2 Shure SM57

Preamps: Focusrite ISA110, AMEK System 9098 Pre/EQ

Lead guitars are just the simple Pod Pro.

Vocals:

Instrument: Your average beer lovin' musician

Mic: Neumann M147

Preamp: Focusrite ISA110

Compressor: Empirical Labs - Distressor (just a tad while riding the fader dude!)

I guess that's pretty much how it went...

Ah HA, a baritone guitar.....I guess I was close anyway. I was in A for awhile, but its hard a shit to find string guages for it. And I favored a Triple Rec. to make the low end smoother. But now Mesa has those Stiletto's now so they might be ten times better are tighting up the low end.

Hehe, you got it wrong again man! Hehe... It's the other way around, 2500 for the kick and 3000 for the snare.
I just got my AE3000 from Thomann yesterday, ordered it thanks to Plec's advice! Will be interesting to try it out on the next recording.

Oh, and... I THINK this is my first post here actually! Even though I have been reading the forum for several months already. So I'll take the opportunity to say hello to the people here!

Had a band in the studio a couple of weekends ago for a demo session. It turned out pretty Sneapish in many ways :headbang:

Sneap 1

Sneap 2
Hóla Svenne!
Good production, but I have to agree with what previous was mentioned, the vocals are a bit loud every once in a while. FAT guitars. Some bigger drums would have been nice :cool: Good job!
