As far as how it sounds? Pretty good, I'll have clips up later on. It's tighter than my regular 5150 (we didn't end up needed a boost) and the tone section is about as different as you can get. I don't know to much about the mods but I know that this thing has mercury magnetic transformers inside. I can't say to much more about it because it's not my amp, but it recorded well.

I owned a Voodoo modded 5150 for a while. Didn't care for it much when I owned it, but I think I would probably like it a lot more now.

Changing the transformer is apparently the biggest upgrade you can do to a 5150, because peavey uses really shitty ones(Except for the one on the blockletter.).

News to me

From what ive heard, the only difference between the blockletter and the later ones are the transformer.
According to all amp techs ive been speaking to, changing the transformer from a bad/decent one, to a good/epic one will make a huge difference in the amps sound.

More dynamics, "harmonic content", more focused lows, mids and highs etc.
Thats the reason why so many people love to mod 60's amps to modern standards, basically because the transformers where allot better back then(For guitar amps at least.).

I know, but I'm pretty certain the only difference between the block letters and the later models was stock tubes ;)

Googled real quick, and found loads of forums where people say that the blockletter has a different transformer then the later ones.
Talked to some tech's who have said the same thing.. and the most common mod on the 5150 seems to be simply changing the transformer to a Mercury Magnetics MMO-100.
